Last race of the season and I am excited it's done for a while!

Last triathlon of the season, a half distance is next week in Rancho Cordova and am excited For the race and then be done for a few months. Do a lot of people experience that feeling? I am happy to be done to spend some more time with the family and let my bones and muscles heal up a bit :).

Don’t get me wrong I can’t wait to kill it in this race for the swim and bike. The run I know will suck as I have been dealing with achilles issues. My “A” race was vineman 70.3 in July and had a blast and learned so much so I am looking forward to appyling new knowledge to this race. I have a half marathon in Santa Barbara that really is just a vacation with the family in November with a quick two hour run saturday morning

But do many people get excited for their offseason to relax for a while and get some rest and quality time with the family and not stress over your weight every day? (I will still do some lighter maintenance workouts) I know the stress and dedication the wife and family have to support me can wear them down after 6 months of races so I feel like I owe them a bit. But!! On the bright side I start training new years day for IMCDA, my first IM, yeah baby!!!

When do you usually shut it down and what do you usually do on your off season?

I agree. I will be helping at, then racing as part of the relay team for the run for Rancho Cordova also. Time to shut the race mode down for 6 months for tris and recharge the batteries. So yep, right there with you.
See you at the race, without smoke.
.

Funny, I was just commenting to a buddy that I am looking forward to just riding or running in the fall with no training goals. Just going for a bike ride.

^Exactly^
.

I retired from tri’s 1st week in Aug. Took a week off. Started lifting a couple times a week. Sold tri gear and bout a road bike. Past week I had 10 workout sessions between lunch and evenings in 6 days. Maybe I’m not quite ready to retire lol. Although, have enjoyed eating for 2 months and starting next w/e another attempt to watch weight.

I’m going through the same thing right now. Completed IM Zurich in July, then convinced myself I wanted to do a another half IM a month later and a marathon a month after that. Trained for the half IM but was starting to question whether I really wanted to do it a couple weeks beforehand. Ended up doing it and did pretty well, for me.
Started to gear up for the marathon and just couldn’t get myself motivated for it. Tired of getting up in the cold and dark to do long runs. Decided to scale back to a half marathon and just enjoy it and cut back on the training.

I just finished my last tri of the season (an oly) two weeks ago and did a century last weekend. I’m planning on a half-marathon in mid-October to celebrate my 58th birthday, and then just running and biking for a bit without any specific training goal in mind (other than enjoying the nice fall weather). Plan to focus on weight training and swim form in the offseason, and hopefully do my first half in 2015.

Done with triathlons for the season. Had a 5k today and have a ~2 mile/3.3k race in three weeks. During the whole 5k I was telling myself I’m definitely not be doing the next race. Immediately changed that after the race and decided there’s no way I’m not doing it!

My season was supposed to end with an IMLT finish, but after that blew up, it has been extended to the first week of December (HITS Palm Springs 140.6)
.

I’m into planning for next year mode. Finished my last Tri a week ago (today), team Triathlon at IM Cozumel 70.3. Hardest swim I had done all year, over an hour with the current that was out there. Did over 2500 in under an hour today in the pool, including some 1 arm drills and other slower activities.

Anyway, I’m looking at figuring out training, determining how to get a whole bunch better with running and a lot better with biking and swimming for next year. Already registered for my first 70.3 Triathlon at the start of June.

I’m reading a book about Everest, bought a mountain bike, went paddle-boarding and hiking. A little bit of home improvements. Spending a lot of time with my wife.

Yeah i got a few home improvement projects and got to get my spa in working order for recovery after training next year. Miss those jets hitting the legs.

Same here. Did my first 70.3, Peasantman, race in August and took the overall. Did my second one, Rev3 Poconos 70.3 and took 2nd overall. As soon as I crossed the line I let out a huge sigh of relief. I had worked hard and accomplished my goals and now I can take those 11 hours a week I used for training and apply it to school:) Of course I might do a duathlon or some other short races but I no longer have to focus and spend as many hours on it. Give me a few weeks and I’ll work out my goals for 2015. By then I should be race hungry and mentally ready to take it on all over again!

Just heading into Summer down here in Aus, so my season is just starting. At the end of a hot long Summer of training i do look forward to winding down a bit over Winter, it doesn’t get overly cold here by Norther Hemisphere standards, but i don’t enjoy training when it cool and Winter is always so windy.

I had two months out of the pool in Winter and it has refreshed my mind to follow that pesky black line over the Summer, otherwise i get burned out and bored if i swim year round.

I have no idea what I will do, technically my season never ends, since I live in Southeast Asia, there are tris/races/runs all year round and the time of day never shifts (on the equator) and the weather is always the same.

I have a 70.3 this coming weekend in Korea and then an Oly in PH at the end of November. If I don’t put anything on my December schedule, I think I will just take Dec-Feb/March off.

How many hours a week do you guys train during your ‘off-season’? Do you generally end up around a percentage margin? Or do you do just enough to not lose much fitness?

Tahoe 1/2 was supposed to be the end of my season and I’m feeling a void. I need to pick a local race to do so I can feel like I’m finished.

Then I’m looking forward to trail running and maybe even doing some push ups.

Thinking about Rancho Cordova too. My training volume dramatically dropped a month ago with school and work on my plate. Not sure if I’ve lost any fitness.

Think i can do it, but I’ll suffer a lot…

I typically agree with you, for about 2 weeks. Then, the itch starts coming back. Living up north-ish, it’s going to be a long time until I can get into a race again; read- June. This makes motivation mid-February all that more challenging (I don’t have the budget to be a jet-set athlete). While, I tend to enjoy the non-structured time, I tend to like the discipline and focus that comes along with the race season. The joy of the season being over is quickly fleeting.

Welcome to the Rancho Cordova- Folsom area. If you are unfamiliar with Folsom, old town is a great place to party Friday night with great bars, restaurants, and live music. Lake Natoma is one of two lakes and a great lake for OWS because motor boats aren’t allowed. It hosts the intercollegiate rowing championships as well. Folsom hosted stage two of the Tour of California this year which was the time trial. It will be a fun weekend!

Cool thanks for the heads up where to eat and drink!!
