I’ve got a oly in about a week and a half. My swim training has been almost non-existant recently for a variety of reasons. I’m not worried about the distance as I’ve done it many times but I’d like to try to get the best bang for my buck over the next week or so. Looking at my schedule I can probably get 3-4 swims in maybe 2 of which could be open water.
Question is: How best to spend my time? I certainly don’t expect to make any gains, but what would the ST brain trust recommend to maximize my time spent?
Thanks!
I would get out in the open water and just practice the race distance. My pool workouts would be harder split workouts.
Like you said your not going to make any gains, so its more about just getting your arms spinning again for race day.
Orcaman,
Thanks for the advice. For the pool swims, would you work in a lot of drills to help get the rust off of the form?
Jeff
work on sighting (place a water bottle or other object at the end of the pool, pick it up every few strokes)
Try to find a similar speed partner and swim side-by-side in a lane to get used to bumping and banging
practice drafting off each other…
Form drills and not so much that intensity that your musculature is tight on race day.

I would do some drill work to get some good form back.
A week and a half out from an Olympic I like doing 5x 300m splits…followed by 10x 100m as my main pool workout. Then a 1500 or 2000m open water swim the next workout.
