I know I know–way to wait until the last minute. I’m missing a couple of my wheelcover fasteners (i just moved…no wonder). If anyone going to the TTT tomorrow has some to spare I would GREATLY appreciate it. I figure I may use the wheelcover for a race or two. I’ll be riding the yellow and black Elite tri bike. Thanks!!
electrical tape around the outside of the rim
.
How do you make it curve with the rim w/out wrinkling and mashing up?
sorry to hear Justin - you don’t need any extra speed anyway
.
Hah, just wait until my cover wings out like a parachute on the downhill!
If your gonna use electrical tape, try Super 33. Someone turned me onto it here a while back for bartape issues, and the stuff is GREAT! I don’t know if it’ll suffice for a wheel cover (hey, it ain’t duct tape) bu its golden for other uses.
I’ll look into that. Thanks!
Don’t know the technical term but there are what I’ve always called binder fasteners. We used them to bind documents that were punched out for a three ring binder. I’ve found them at the hardware store and have used them on my CH Aero wheel cover. They look identical. If they are not the same thing that Chaero uses I’d be really surprised.
They are sometimes referred to as Chicago bolts, and can be found at Home Depot or Lowes. Bring in a set you didn’t lose (yet), and go to the bolt section. You’ll find a bunch of little plastic (green?) bags with a set of these in each. They come in various lengths. You should be able to match exactly what you have. Buy extras.
I don’t use fasteners on mine, never had them. I use small strips of black duct tape at each pair of mounting holes. The tape goes over the hole then under the cover so the back of the tape crosses the rim, then over the corresponding hole on the other cover. This would be tougher with a deep rim. I then use electrical tape around the edge. I have used my cover for years this way with no issues.
Great! Thanks to everyone for the help. I’ll go with the tape for temporary this weekend and go to the hardware store later for some backups.
Someone else posted here with some good advice on taping the cover. He said do not stretch the tape. I taped mine and it works great. Following the contour of the rim is easy if you go slow and make sure the cover is centered.
