I got my credit card statement on line for my Thailand trip for the Laguna Phuket Triathlon on november 20th. I still can’t believe how inexpensive this trip is. I booked through Deepak Patel’s Premium Plus Sports.
Registration for the event is still open on Active.com and you can still book travel through Premium Plus Sports. I am in Thailand for 10 days for well under $2000 for everything- and those are nice accomodations including breakfast. The room is like an apartment with a full kitchen.
Anybody else going? I highly recommend this race. Here’s my report from last year:
. . and Thailand would be considered an expensive place to go.
As you know, once you get off the beaten path in this world, the price of travel drops off dramatically. If you know what you are doing, you can live like a king for 30 - 40 bucks a day, all in, in many countries.
I’ll bring my laptop with me so let me know what you need to connect your camera to the laptop and we can upload pics for the distant slowtwitchers to enjoy.
Hey Tom, have a Singha for me. Ahhhh…between Thailand in the winter and Spain in the summer, I am a happy man. I have been to 44 countries in the last 6+ years, Thailand is definitely the best. The country is safe, the locals are very friendly and you can party with all the hot European chicks that are there for holiday. I spent 3 weeks on Ko Phangan, the whole trip including airfare only cost me $1300. I am more of the backpack traveller. I had a bungalow on the beach for $5, rented a motorbike for $3 and meals were only $1-3. You know your a backpacker when your bar tab is 10 times your accommendations. I hope to be there in Febuary 2005. Question for you…Do you think Ironman France will fill fast? I am thinking about doing it. Plan would be to do World Long Course Duathlon on May 28 in Italy, then shot over to France for the Ironman on June 19. Four weeks of training in Europe should be a blast. It should be interesting finding pensions and hostals with my tri gear. Enjoy your trip. Cheers
Was seriously considering it until I signed up for IM Busselton, Phuket will have to wait to next year. Wishing you a good race and a pleasant stay in SE Asia.
Had been planning on it for several months, but then some work things got in the way and the only holiday the wife and I could get together was around that time, so we’re off to Oz for a couple of weeks.
I’m definitely doing it next year as part of the build to IMNZ 2006, with possibly the Taupo half in the December if I’m up to it.
As I live in Brunei, it’s not far to travel for a weekend race. I’ll look forward to your report and if you’re there next year, I’ll see you then.
The place is fantastic and the Laguna resort and the service from the staff just can’t be faulted. I’m looking into competing there next year as it’s an excellent excuse to return and Joanne will love me for taking her back…even if it is to watch me race lol.
Tom…if you have the time go to Phuket FantaSea (sic)…one of the most surreal experiences I’ve ever had, it’s like a psycedelic mix between a Barnum & Bailey Circus, Disney and Hello Kitty on acid!
