The ironman.com coverage gets better each year (imho), and the commentators did a good job.
But one thing that is really missing is splits. It’s really frustrating to spend a good amount of the race with no idea how the race is unfolding. I understand it’s easier for the ITU with the multilap format, and I’ve no idea how bike racing do it.
But I hope there is an improvement for Kona, as this is the one thing that really separates the coverage from many other sports.
Yeah, I don’t understand why they don’t update the order in the different divisions as people pass timing mats, it stays the same from the last exit of transition. It used to update as people passed timing mats etc. Since they have the option of commenting (on their new system) I left that comment. Hopefully others will to. Or maybe sportstat will chime in on why this doesn’t happen anymore.
I gotta admit, I like watching people blow up on the run evil, I know.
ETA: WTC race splits etc… is tons better than Rev3. You don’t know what mile people are on w/o adding up the previous segments. For a race co. that used to partner w/ a gps tracking company it’s awful.
actually, the new tracker is worse. It switches to alphabetical after the last person at the next timing mat (if that makes sense, it shows correct for the people ahead of the person who went over say timing mat 5, but after that alphabetical)
ETA: I guess if you select leaderboard it does what you’re saying. Somewhat confusing. But better now that I know that trick
But couldn’t this board always be on the screen? And it’s still no comparison to cycle racing where groups and gaps are live on the screen and updated constantly.
It misses the ‘live excitement’ on the bike due to this. You end up refreshing the tracker, to find out what’s going on rather than being gripped by the feed.
The run was better, the commentary team made a big effort to say who was running what speed.
Not meaning to be negative. … was the best commentary effort I’ve seen so far
Good point, yes you have to be on leadeboard to get
Order… Overall is alpha until they finish.
Other new feature is instant certificate download as well when
You finish . We plan to keep improving this tracker and by 2014
Post Kona qualifiers etc…
I’ve noticed that this year you stopped showing the speed/pace & individual rankings on the www.sportstats.ca. I did Muskoka and IMMT 70.3 and both are missing this info, while in the past years it was included. Las Vegas is missing it, too.
I found that info to be quite useful and I was wondering why you decided to remove it.
My wife used the new tracker at Vegas and said she definitely liked the new one. The time of day function made it easier for her to track me on the course.
