Larsen's Lake Placid P3 For Sale

Just browsing and came across this. Appears to be Larsen’s P3, or at least it is advertised. Didn’t realize that he rode a 58cm.

He managed to squeeze out a better bike split than me that year. I forget the margin. Maybe I should buy it to find out why.

It started out with a opening $1500 bid with a $2500 buy it now, but I think it would be hard to find one so well set up for less. Bidding will now probably go way past the buy now price. It will be a good auction to watch. Did you look at all the other prototype swag/gear he has listed also. Maybe this really is a retirement sale, or fund raising for top secret training mission in Oregon. I hope the later. It was cool to watch Steve put the fear in them at the race he showed up for.

I bought his Corima disc wheel off ebay a few months ago, I was amazed to find out it was him, that was before the retirement was announced. I hope he is planning a comeback, but he’s not getting his wheel back, I like it.

It says ‘Used by one year for training by Steve Larsen’. Can anyone guess how much miles that is?

I guess I should have bought it with buy it now. I just remembered that he his bike split was about two hours faster. I should buy this bike to see how he managed it.

Now now there Art…somehow he managed to squeeze out a better bike split than a few of us there that year.

eBay is a great way for pro’s to dump equipment for some cash. I got my wife’s Aegis frame off eBay from a local Cat 1 racer that gets a new frame every year from sponsors. We had it repainted by Aegis for $150 making our total cost $450. Thats whats called a “win win” situation.

Art, you can buy the bike, but you won’t find out what made it move faster around that LP course than all P3’s on the planet. You’ll need to get inside Steve’s lungs for that. I was both depressed and inspired when he smoked by me on the run course and I was only completing my first lap. Not bad run speed for a guy who never ran more than 18 miles. One of my pre race goals was not to get lapped on the run by the winner, but Larsen blew by me with lots of real estate to spare (and I did go 10:42 that day). The guy is simply a mutant.

I guess I don’t understand how that could be. Wasn’t the title of Lance’s first book “It’s all about the Bike?”

I was a tad behind you that day. He went by me near the end of his second lap while I was heading out of town for my first.

I am sure it must be the P3. Oh, wait, I had a P3 that day too, but mine was an older model. That must have been it.

Art…clearly Gerard must put a micro piezoelectric powered extra motor in the BB of his sponsored athletes on P3’s, something a regular dude like you does not have access to…or it could just be the the motor in his body that you also don’t have access to :-).

I bought a jersey and short set a few months ago without even realizing it was him. When my stuff came in the mail, the return address was for a Mr. Steve Larsen in Bend, OR and he even included an autographed picture. Pretty cool, although I’m sorry that he’s retiring. Its so much fun to watch guys like him and Bjorn tear the legs off people on the bike course, and really make some of those faster runners sweat a little. Give Bjorn a few more years to improve his run, and I think we’ll see some very very fast races. Guys like that can change the way a race is run just by showing up. Pretty cool stuff.

Mark

There is also a bunch of his pearlizumi stuff for sale as well.
