Hmmmm…very interesting. If true, a very good find.

Probably a good use of their advertising budget. Hell, how many people even know that Radio Shack is still around?!!

They have also taken all of the standard variants (ex. radioshackcycling.com, etc.).

It means that they were at least in talks with RS. They grab the domains first to prevent cybersquating…even if the discussions come to naught.

All the domains were purchased earlier this week and updated today. I thought for sure it was going to be Oracle but this looks pretty legit. It’s great to see another American cycling team and can’t wait to see the team take shape beyond, LA and Bruyneel.

A dated article from the Onion…

FORT WORTH, TX—Despite having been on the job for nine months, RadioShack CEO Julian Day said Monday that he still has “no idea” how the home electronics store manages to stay open.

CEO Julian Day
“There must be some sort of business model that enables this company to make money, but I’ll be damned if I know what it is,” Day said. “You wouldn’t think that people still buy enough strobe lights and extension cords to support an entire nationwide chain, but I guess they must, or I wouldn’t have this desk to sit behind all day.”

Yup, actually that was the first thing I thought of when I started reading this thread!

Ya. I agree. Just because the domain name is registered doesn’t mean it’s finalized. It just means that the possibility was there, so they decided to pay a few dollars now to make sure they didn’t have to spend hundreds of thousands later on buying the name from a cybersquatter. Some of my family works for Intel and they even register fake names for upcoming products to throw off squatters and competitors. I’m sure a lot of other companies do as well.

That being said… it’s probably true though

Kudos for pulling out the Onion quote!

Note: LanceWins8.com is still available :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I thought they were bought by circuit city, circuit city went out of business and that was the end of it.

Team Radio Shack would be awful as a name…

I find it curious that a brand without a real International sales structure would invest heavily into an International sport.

I agree its a curious choice but not for this reason. Check out any of the main sponsors of the TdF, Giro etc - if you dont watch cycling there is almost no chance you would have heard of half of them. The only real exceptions being maybe Garmin and Columbia. But its not like the main sponsors of the top TdF teams are hugely recognizable international brands - like Coke, IBM, McDonalds etc.

Duh? Batteries & battery chargers for all the electronic shit on our bikes… it makes perfect sense to me (right?) : )

True, I think all the big names are probably scared to be associated with a sport that unfortunately is constantly linked to doping.

Like USPS?

When they launched the team in part it was to promote their ability to ship international, they were expanding international options at that point.

Since everything is still speculation at this point, who will be on the team?

Hincapie
DZ
The Brooks Schleck
LL
Kloden

Hopefully they will not ban completely radios next year!
