Anyone have an idea why Floyd was riding these old Ksyriums today? You can tell by the front hub that these are even pre the composite front hub version, which dates them to probably 2005 or so.

So his race wheels feel extra light…

must be the economy
.

I doubt if the OUCH team budget affords too much high-zoot stuff. On a crappy day, you ride your crappy old stuff.

.

it was training

it was rain/snowing, and aluminum brakes better

low profile

just guesses
.

Jan Ulrich used to ride an aluminum bike with a water bottle filled with gunshot pellets during training so his race bike felt THAT much lighter to him.

Yes yes, go ahead and throw your doping jokes in here, but using heavier equipment in training is not that uncommon.

I agree w/ all this, and can totally see it, but Armstrong, for example, uses a 32hole 3x wheel. Nearly a touring wheel. While I’m sure the older ksyrium is heavier than his “A” wheels, they’re not exactly a bottle filled w/ buckshot.

because it doesn’t matter?

Lemond used to train with a body full of buckshot.

HTFU

HTFU

And Raced with it too!

Agreed that candy a$$ race wheel users like Armstrong, Landis and Ullrich should HTFU!
