Landis Positive: Now what? Who won?

So, who won the damn thing now?

Oscar
.

It’s gotta be Pereiro - he EARNED it.

the best doctor wins the yellow jersey…

Everybody loses.

They should not award the win to anyone…just strike the year from the record books.

t~

Runners and joggers win. cyclists are dopers…

Damn…
hope B comes back negative… you know I was kind of indifferent about the winner… i was hoping for an American though. Figured more people and sponsors would take cycling seriously here at home. Which in the end would translate to more cash for the developmental teams.

testosterone

…the absence of which explains why the French can’t win.

I think a B negative would be worse. The cloud would still remain and nobody would trust the testing procedures.

There is some wisdom to this unfortunately.

I am so disappointed.

Someone explain to me what we tell our kids, besides “Floyd did’nt win because he cheated.” I am at a loss. Cycling in America just took one giant step to the back of the bus.

OLN to air a special one hour 2006 Tour de France retrospective show: The Men Who Would Be King

On Sunday, July 30 at 7 p.m. ET, Viewers Can Relive All of the Controversies, Comebacks, Heartbreak and Heroes of the this Year’s Tour de France.

I guess the OLN crew is doing a little last minute re-writing.

They should auction it off on Ebay… but, you have to pass the urine test (which if you passed it, you could turn around and auction that off).

Actually, I made my kids read the Outside article on Floyd before the Tour because I though they could benefit in their own athletic endeavors by gettting a taste of his no holds barred work ethic. So, now I do have a little explaining to do ;-).

My kids are athletes (thank God they are not cyclists - I do think this sport is too polluted to steer kids into it with a clear conscience) so the drug lesson is one they need to learn and now seems to be a good time to discuss it.

For right now, all we can tell our kids is that one of his samples had a metabolic ratio level that was considered high. Once it’s confirmed as part of his B sample, there are no allowed circumstances that could have caused this, that all of the sample taking/chain of custody/testing procedures were right, and the ratio is high enough to be considered the line of ‘high-normal’, then the conclusion can be that it came from an artificial, unauthorized source. Just like an iceberg, there’s a lot more hidden below the waterline.

I would suggest, “Don’t hold random sports figures up as idols” to start, followed by what you said. Both are very good lessons and this seems like an excellent opportunity to show your kids there are consequenses to their actions, etc, etc.

The phloyd and perspective thread also revealed some excellent other things that may be important to discuss with your children, like darfur. Might I also suggest some lessons on tolerance, forgiveness, and perspective.

That’s right, keep your head in the sand. Just FYI, the percentage of positive tests in cycling and triathlon is about the same, 2-3%. The only difference is, cycling does over 10,000 tests, triathlon barely 500. You can win an Ironman and not be tested at all, how messed up is that? If you take that to mean triathlon doesn’t have a doping problem, then I have some land in Florida for sale.

I personally find it a bit hard to believe. Testosterone is the probably the easiest drug to test for. If he took it, he had to know they’d find it. It’s like strapping an outboard motor to a sailboat and hoping your competition doesn’t see. Given the tremendous level of exertion and the heat of the day, it would not surprise me in the least if this was a case of unstable urine, which has caused a number of nandralone false positives in the past. He certainly went deep into the well on Stage 17, and given the conditions, it seems like the exact sort of scenario that would set up the protein breakdown in the urine that leads to these sort of positives. I’m not sure how a “B” sample will help in this case, since it’s piss from the same day. In any case, I hope they don’t hang him yet.
