Lance's strength video. I'm confused

Here is footage of lance lifting weights. According to many here if you even touch a weight you lose all endurance and will never race again. So what gives?

you’re forgetting the ST caveat. Lance is an elite; 90% that post here only wish they were. What is good for the elites is not necessarily good for the not-so-elite.

I don’t think most people thing lifting is a bad idea. But where you have time to fit it in is what causes the problem. If you only have 10 hours a week to train, those 10 hours are better spent doing s/b/r. If you are training 25-30 hours a week, lifting may not be such a bad idea.

Lance is 37 and single. He has to represent.

thats retarded. Most of the pro men are well toned i.e. stadler, alexander. You cant get that way without weights.

and maybe if I could spend 5+ hours a day on the bike and still have enough left to lift without hurting myself. It’s diminishing returns. He’s just at the point where he’s putting in so much time in the saddle, that the gains he gets from spending time with weights out weigh the gains from equal additional time on the bike.

he’s doing those hard-ass step ups & not curls for the girls. some people don’t know the difference.

Real strength training won’t do anything to hurt your endurance. If anything the right exercises will help you…

  1. hes not doing that much weight
  2. he doesnt do 3 sports, well not im not believing hes racing kona until i see him at the starting line
  3. he doesnt have a non athletic job, schooling, w/e like the rest of us.

He may be "officially single - especially for tax filing purposes. But, I still have a hunch he’s crushing the Olsen Twins’ buns every now and then.

Arnold use to swear by barefoot weightlifting. Said it helps with balance and form.

Interesting, I wonder whether he knows Mark Twight and the Gym Jones gym. It would not surprise me at all. Twight was a serious alpinist and both weights and endurance are important when attempting to do 20k vertical feet of technical climbing in 60 hours…

strength training in the form of swim/bike/run is really all it would take for some people.

maybe without weights but not strength training, which is what he is doing.

When was that video taken? He hit the weights a lot after retiring. When he became serious about his comeback he probably curtailed a lot of the lifting. He’s actually going to need to lose muscle mass now before the Tour.
