Anyone notice how often LA was standing in the TT? What he purposely trying to slow himself down? Cue theories>

… he puts out more power standing up while going up the countless hills on the course?
No one prepares more for a race than Lance. I’m sure he knew where on the course it was best for him to stand. Aren’t the guys from his team in his ear too? I would guess they scout out the course and know exactly when and where he should get out of the saddle.
this is just training for Lance…He will take the Giro…the deal has been made, Levi gets TOC, Lance gets Giro and Canti gets TDF…
Nike and Trek are behind it I heard. They hired a marketing firm that concluded that if he would stand while climbing he’d get 18% TV time.
Even in the work-a-day world this is true. People that are standing are more noticable than people that are sitting in chairs.
I read where they plan on fitting him with elevator bike shoes for The Tour so that he’ll appear taller.
No way Lance isn’t coming back to win France. In America that is the ONLY bike race and that counts the one going on in America right now. If Lance doesn’t win the Tour de France people in America will consider this whole thing a failure. Your average American could give two shits about the Giro unfortunately.
Really?
REALLY?
This has been measured?

Maybe Lance will change that by winning the Giro =)

No way is Contador going to sit back for the tour.
Lance gets publicity by being in the tour. Americans will care about the Giro if he wins it, if he doesn’t they won’t care because it’s not the tour. If he wins, we’ll being hearing all about how much bigger the climbs are in Italy and how all the greats have done it.
Naaa. Lance long before the Giro or TdF will get an “injury” that will keep him out of both, or the “injury” will be at the Giro. No matter what, Lance will not be at the podium in Paris.

News flash…
unfortunely the average american could give two shits about the tour de france
I saw a recent interview with Lance. I came away with 2 conclusions. First is that Lance WILL win the Giro, and second he will win the stage to the top of Mount Ventoux. He referred to them as unfinished business. I think he is working with his team to get their full support for these 2 goals in exchange for his support at the Tour. However, if he is feeling strong enough I would not put it past him to pull a “Bernard Hinault” as Benard tried to do on Greg Lemond.
Ahhhh, I agree, injury at the Giro, podium at the TDF!!!

Everyone cares if an American wins the TdF.
Especially the French. ![]()
Theory: How about that he is riding in support of Levi at the TOC? That means that he can’t just put his head down and catch his minute-man for fear of getting too close to Levi in the GC.
I am on board with the TOC, Giro, TdeF theorists. Lance has done what he wanted to do at the TdeF and it will be a long time before anyone comes close, so he is done with it. Also, the TdeF is a meatgrinder for the leader and he probably won’t want to to put himself through that. He won’t want to be like the Badger and Lemon, because that was just embarassing. He will get PLENTY of coverage just staying in the top-20 and making it look interesting. I think he wants the Giro, because it has often been said that he just isn’t Merckx’s equal because he never won one of the other Grand Tours. Thus, Levi - ToC, Lance - Giro, Conti - TdeF.
Hinault vs Lemond and a fractured team…I just see exactly the same this year if Lance is feeling good.
totally whack-job answer here…Lance hires Jeff Gilooly (of Tonya Harding fame) to whack Contador on the knee…then Lance takes over and wins his eighth TDF…grin.
I was thinking the same thing…
He looks like a brick-shit house right now. I don’t care how he feels now. When he has to haul that 10 extra pounds of muscle over some major climbs he is not going to be feeling so good.
