Lance shows how to fix a flat ! (video)

Funny? Ironic?

Maybe both.

I enjoyed the “7 time TDF champion” follwed by, “I didn’t write the script” (or whatever his exact words were)
.

I would go with funny and ironic.

valve caps are uncool
.

I can’t see the video, but tell me, does he fix a flat as well as Bjarne Riis?

Well actually it was

“7 time TDF champion”…* added and then “I didn’t write the script” haha playing off the bit where he still calls himself champion.

I wonder how much he got paid for that gig, $5k?

I think Bjarne, Lance, Marco, and Jan all put air in their tires and water in the bottles…and the rest of the stuff. So kind of funny him showing the world how to fix flats because it was (still is) a basic part of the sport. Not sure if the other stuff is still a basic part of the sport. We’ll need Wiggins and Froome to do their videos on the other basics. Contador can show us how to barbeque beef too!

I thought the crew car just drove up and gave you a whole new wheel? They put it on for you and give you a push to get going as well. No?

ftw !

No, no, you’ve got it all wrong. The correct way to change a flat is just to be given a whole new bike. Then the push.

what’s wrong with a valve cap?

what’s wrong with a valve cap?

They’re only on the tube for packing purposes (so the valve doesn’t puncture the tube.) All it does when you have the tube installed on your bike is slow down changing a flat.

I thought the “Doing pretty good for a guy who just learned how to do this” line was pretty funny.

A lot of people say he is so fast at fixing flats because he is a doper. I think he has just been working harder at it. No one practices changing flats like he does. Plus he is physiologically built for changing flats in a way that none of his competitors are. We never knew about his skill at this because his cancer and an earlier parasitic infection that is now resolved. Couple that with the marginal gains his custom made tire lever provides and it is clear he can compete clean.

I’ll always be a fan of the guy. I can’t help it.

Awesome video. I did a real “LOL”

To add more info, I always remove the caps from the valve stems on race wheels. But the caps are still handy for training set ups. On a training ride, if I flat, I usually just switch out the tube. But I roll up and keep the old tube for patching when I get home. And then the valve cap is handy, as I put it back on the old tube’s valve stem to do exactly that, keep the stem from puncturing the old tube.

Say what you want, I still like the guy. Nothing like watching him riding in the Tour, regardless of the circumstance. This video cracked me up a bit.

Honestly, I got a chuckle initially from the interesting advertisement in the shop window… “Put some fun between your legs”…

Excuse me a moment while I run home and remove all of the valve caps from my bike wheels. I’m such a fred.
