Lance on Meet The Press

SInce the coverages of the Ironmans is so bad this morning, I got to watch some political tv this today…

Did anyone catch Lance this morning on Meet The Press??? He was really good in hi interview. Apparently he is hosting a debate for all the canditates that show up on the cancer issue. After watching, he is definatley going into politics in the future. Very well spoken, and has a Clintonesque(Bill that is) command of the language, and ability to communicate. Only question is will he be a Republican or a Democrat??? I couldn’t really tell, my guess it will be whoever he thinks is the winning side. He does hate to lose…

That was an interesting clip, completely different from his actual interview on the show … Did you catch the hidden stab at the war when he was talking about the cancer fight?? “You have to know your enemy completely, before you can go to battle with it”. That was great, and he got to talk about cycling a little, which he didn’t get to do on the main show.

You would think that being a texan he would be a gun loving republican. But then again…most “stars” lean the other way.

Wow, I didn’t realize that clip wasn’t the actual interview! I don’t have a TV so I rely on the internet heavily for this stuff.

I thought he was very well spoken.

Also, I thought it was interesting that he said he didn’t think he’d have won even a single TDF if he hadn’t had cancer. In his mind having had cancer changed his mindset from that of a one day specialist to a Tour GC racer.

It was a lot more about cancer stats, 1500 a day die from it, and all the money shortfalls in fighting it. He says about 6 billion a year now, and he wouldn’t come out and say it, but you could hear in his inferences that he feels that two weeks of the war in Iraq costs about the same while 100’s of billions going to the war, largly started because 3000 of us were killed, and 600,000+ of us die every year of cancer. His comment was that every two days is another 9/11 in cancer deaths. They pointed out that every canditate either had, has, or has an immediate family member with cancer. He pointed out that if you widen the scope to your friends too, then 100% of us are affected. 1 in 3 will get cancer in their lives now, and he pointed out a couple solutions to lower the death rates by 1/3 right now through early detection. Of course all this takes money, and that was his main point. They also talked about his upcoming talks with the candatites, and who said they would and would not be coming… He is very sly not to critisize politacians outwardly, but you definatley get the inferences when he is not happy with them. That is why I think he will make a great politician, he gets his message across, but there won’t be any youtube Maccac videos to crush him later… He Just has to hope that Ferrari keeps his mouth shut, so far so good…

he has a done a lot for cancer victims, i must commend him for that.

but if he is smart, he will never go into national politics. his credibility as an ethical or honest person is near zero, and while no one is perfect, unless he confesses, i think the enormous web of lies he has woven over how he achieved much in his athletic career (i.e., the use of PEDs) will dog him forever …

Apparently you must live in Canada or somewhere else. Our politicians here are not hampered by facts, let alone innuendo and what might have happened. This is the country that re elected Marion Berry, Bill Clinton, and a host of others that were actually caught in crimes. Lance is a saint next to many of them, and so far his record is clean…HE is the perfect political want to be for this country, and he is so beloved because of his cancer stuff, I think like Clinton, people would over look any indescretion in a long ago sport he used to play in. I’m sure Arnold has run the gamet of drug use, fondled many a pretty young lady while married, and he is the most popular govenor we have had in a long time. No one cares what he did in sport, just what he does as a politican… I mean if Gulaini can overcome his personal history in the conservative republican party, and be the front runner, it just shows how little your baggage hurts you if people actually like you. Now if you are not very well liked, then a parking ticket that is not paid, can get you thrown out of the game…

I saw it this morning and thought he was exceptional. Well spoke, concise, and really down to earth with the issue. Clearly this is not someone paying lip service to a cause-du-jour after they are cured…

No no no…Marion Barry had a good defense…“Bitch set me up!”

To this day people in this city still talk about how things would be better if he were still the mayor…ugh.

Brings up an interesting question: what national politicians in recent history have had only a high school degree?

Brings up an interesting question: what national politicians in recent history have had only a high school degree? \\

I think that Lance would be in very good company, Biill Gates, Paul Allen, Larry Ellison, and Michael Dell, all college drop outs, that run companies bigger than a lot of states. And some of the most sucessfull and richest Americans that have all been self made, 1st generation. A college degree is not a great predictor of sucess anymore at the very top levels, that went out a generation ago. It still has some advantages at the lower levels, but in the top .001% of self made, very sucessfull people, which Lance can definately be included in, it means nothing. Just a tiny scab that his detractors can pick at I guess, but meaningless in the grand scheme of things…

"A college degree is not a great predictor of sucess anymore "

A college degree is still a predictor of success for most people. The ones you mention are exceptions, and they are all in the business world. Not saying it couldn’t happen, but I doubt someone could get through a general election without a degree. Keep in mind that the people that run big businesses don’t have to get elected.

“…Clintonesque…”

instead of I didn’t inhale it’ll be I didn’t inject
.

He exudes confidence and he seems really erudite and clear in getting his points across.

Is it just me or does he look really old for his age?

Uh, none of those are politicians.

I said politician, not businessman.

And care to provide any statistics other than a few anecdotal examples?

I’m not going to argue with you about poitician’s educations, since it has not even come up once, in all the media hype and debates that have been permeating the airwaves these past months. You want a political example, here you go, Abe Lincoln… Getting elected these days is more a popularity contest, with some perceived content of a popular agenda thrown in. Good looks and confidence don’t hurt either. I think that Lance fits that scenario quite well. Not that I like how it is, it just is.

I asked “what national politicians in recent history”. Now I know you’re old and all, but not THAT old

Karl Rove does not have his college degree as far as I know, but I don’t know of any national politician running for office recently that didn’t have their degree.

Just curious.

Like I said, I don’t really know either, because it just never comes up. It just doesn’t appear to be important. Can you imagine how condensending it would be for someone to bring that up in a debate, it would be the kiss of death if you were the one talking down to someone elses education. Now the expirence thing comes up a lot, but that has to do with their political education in the field, not the one in the classroom several decades ago…And of course the old military education thing comes up a lot when talking about the war, that seems to be fair game, but once again, has nothing to do with college degrees…
