So Lance basically said at this point in his mind he just wants to enjoy life after cycling (not get into the do or die of constant training) and to enjoy the charity events, mt. bike rides, running, swimming but that he has said no matter what, people are going to expect him to win and question why he didnt win or why he got beat by a girl. He also did say that he didnt want his fitness to falter to the levels after his 1st retirement, so if that is any indication it seems he will still put a really good effort, but def. not the likes of his Tour preparation. It sounds like he simply wants to enjoy being a fit athlete but def. not put in the preparation it takes to be a “top” athlete. More or less train when he feels up to it and take a day off when he doesnt want to train.
I was a little shocked how dejected he seemed about doing tris in this interview given how much he has talked about doing Kona over the past year. Especially to go as far as to say “I don’t know about ironman.”
This was taken 3 weeks into the TdF…as Lance said, nobody wants to think about suffering through an Ironman or any other endurance event at that point.
did people talk down about him after his boston marathon time? i believe considering his past history of not much running his time was damn respectable
Sounds like he is reading ST, he has been bitch slapped by this forum and several others over and over again. I wouldn’t blame him one bit if he just said fuck off…I don’t want to deal with you people anymore. If he gets chicked he will get laughed at…if he wins he is a doper. What’s the point?
a question ask at the wrong time. He is exhausted, down and need some rest… of course he wont answer about how exciting he is to do triathlon.
There is moments where question should not be ask… the end of a ironman is another good moment where most people judgment goes down to a 5 year old level… not the time to ask anything meaningfull!!!

Yeah, great point. Lance will walk away from the competitive life cuz of us. Makes me feel…oooohhh, so important.
Lance lurks here for sure, so does Chrissie…even the Dalai Lama (although he spends most of his time reading my stuff in the LR)
Anyway, Lance said he 's not ready to think about his next 'Sufferfest" only that he’s going to relax with the family and drink a few beers (Michelob Ultra’s I presume)
Lance will race Kona 2011 for sure and I can assure you it will on a bike equipped with Shimano componentry.
Good point, as one should be able to drink the beer of his choice in complete privacy.
I’m just thinking about loyalty to ones sponsors: If I was sponsored by Oakley and Michelob, I would totally avoid being photographed drinking a Dos Equis while wearing a pair of Foster Grants. But that’s just me.
It must be hard to retire and continue to compete in sports remotely associated with your career sport without there being some degree of expectation by the press and the crowds. Look at the New York city marathon debut he made, I do not believe there was as much coverage of the winner as there was of Lance in breaking 3hrs by a couple of seconds. There were people who actually thought he would be down in the 2:20 range! If he tries to just do Kona for the experience, he will get more grief than any of the other pros who get “chicked” but do IM’s for a living. Maybe he should take up golf instead.
