Johan Brunyeel said Lance has been sitting up over the late portions of the stage to conserve for a break. He’s down 40 minutes on the GC. Tomorrow is an epic stage with four mountain passes (two HC climbs) and a long 40+ km run in to the finish from the summit of the last climb (http://www.cyclingnews.com/races/97th-tour-de-france-gt/stage-16) tailor built for a breakaway. The summit is too far away from the finish for the GC guys to do enough damage that everyone won’t group back up on the decent, so they won’t be gunning to win. They’ll be saving up for Thursday’s mountain top finish. Finally, this stage was chosen to honor cycling great (and Lance’s good friend) Eddy Merxx. It’s the perfect storm.

I’m predicting Lance on the podium tomorrow.
He might be on the podium tomorrow, but considering the largest winning margin EVER in the tour (for a single stage) is around 22 mins, seems like a poor strategy for the overall.
You need to put down the crack pipe and step away.
Stage winners are taken directly to doping control to pee in a cup. Lance won’t want that (though by all indications, we may actually be seeing a clean Lance this year).

Yeah…it’s not like he hasn’t been “randomly” checked at all during this tour yet

Yea great point. I mean Lance never gets tested. For once, if he wins a stage, we will get a drug test done on him.
OP. You are freaking Nostra the 2nd coming. I mean who on earth would have predicted Lance making a move tomorrow. Great call man!
i think you are right. About the podium I don’t know, but i expect him to be in a large break away group. It is the day for the good climbers who already lost enough time to be allowed to ride away.
kinda thought he may try and pull one last huha today given nature of the stage…he’s so far off the GC that they may just let him go and if he’s on form, a stage win should be doable given he’s clearly not spent himself over the past few days like some of the others. will make for an interesting stage
I’m not surprised. For all the talk about supporting the best rider, ever since his tour fairy tale died he has done nothing but prepare to win himself a stage instead of helping his NO1 rider. Its all about the team leader unless he isn’t that person.
