My personal opion is that lance retired before the drive was gone and is looking for an excuse to come back.
But lets just say that his potential comeback is fueled purely by the french press. If he wanted to get back at them then dont race the tour de france. Think about how much bigger the tour has gotten in the past years with him, especially in the us. You would think if he wanted to get back at them race say the vuelta or giro. the tdf is much bigger than the other tours but if lance were to train to win one of the others the publicity would be huge. the giro would be covered like the tour was last year. This may be a reach but potentialy you could see some of the big names pull out of the tdf to race the giro or vuelta. Think of the money lost for the french. Granted the tdf would still be the biggest but it woudnt be as big. just some thoughts
That was my first thought. Go support Savoldelli to win the Giro again. Don’t race the tour and go win the Vuelta. Spain after all is his home away from home. This way he would build BOTH the other races at the expense of the tour. My second thought was… I better get in my deposit for the TDF in '06.
Naw, Lance has said many times that the Tour is the only race that really matters in cycling. I think he believes that very strongly. To focus on another race to the exclusion of the Tour wouldn’t be in character for him.
I think he should be a man of his word. He retired.
Lance in powerfull enough to change what matters if only for a year. I am not saying this will happen but in THEORY Lance could race say the giro and it would draw plenty of extra sponsers and press tothe event. It may bring out a few big names that want to race him. Then people see that the big names are at the giro so lets go race the giro then you have a guy the caliber of tom danielson winning the tour by 2 minutes. Now i knwo this is a stretch but in theory…

I agree, I said the same thing the other day. If he does the TDF all he will do is give the race more publicity and bring more lance fans to france, which would be more money for france and organizers. If he races the Vuelta or Giro he would help increase the publicity of those races. Most americans have no idea that there is a giro or vuelta, if Lance did it they know and watch. I bet Lance wont race, just talk. If he is feeling energetic he should do an Ironman!
If he “comes back” so quickly it will feel lame to me. This will not shut the French Press up … then again … how many still care about that article? Lance needs to know he is not the centre of the universe … maybe Sheryl should remind if of that … isn’t that what wives are for?
Nah, I dont think he is “worng” … sorry you must have been inhaling some of that nos. I think he should race exclusively in France all year - Paris Roubaix, Dauphine and every other race. Every race day he would fill up the pee cups for the journalists to sample with their croissants and coffee.
