This is going to piss a lot of people  I Like it…

… and he wants to do it fast!

I think it will be great to see a guy in the 40-44 age group compete on the bike with the other Pro’s. Now the question will be, when he catches up the the Pro’s will he just sit in the group like he is used to doing or will be blow by them and forget that he still has to run a marathon.

Of course he will do it fast on the new Trek TT bike that will be coming out.

Why would it piss anyone off that he wants to do Ironman? That’s nothing but pure crap. If you are afraid of what the competition will be like pack your bags and go home. I don’t cry when I see Bruce Genarri (sp) swimming in my wave.

Too bad norman’s and scott’s dreams will be squeezed badly…

he will crush dreams

LANCE ARMSTRONG - The official new Two Sport DREAM CRUSHER!

Ya BABY!

“I got some of these Ironman DVD’s - let’s see what this is all about.” I call bull $hit on the article. Like he really needs a DVD to learn what it’s about.

It was probably figuratively… it made for a good quote.

Anyway, I for one, am looking forward to watching him compete… and its a really high profile name to bring to the sport. If you love triathlon, you should love the exposure Lance can bring to it.

I can not wait to watch this thread explode into a love/hate thread about Lance.

Me too

The comparison with Laurent Jalabert will be interesting. Both retired (or semi-retired for Lance) pro cyclists. Lance ex triathlete. Lance should swim faster than Jaja, ride faster (by how much?) but run slower. Jaja is a bit older I think. Nice head to head!

I think that’s a bit of Lancespeak. He was a monster as a 15 y/o AG competitor. IIRC, he won his AG at the USTS Bud Light Nationals one year…

John

Ya but, he says “like I trained for the marathon”. Everyone has a different definition of fast, but LA open marathon time isn’t going to make him a threat to top IM pros. Assuming a decent swim and a good day running, relative to his PR, he wont be anywhere near winning.

Styrrell

re-read it
that isn’t what he said

Yea, that almost exactly opposite of what he said in fact.

Hopefully Lance remembers how to ‘gut check’

Ha! It’s not ever going to happen. Once he gets done with being embarrassed with his poor decision to comeback to cycling, he’ll go back to being a celebrity jerk. Even if he ever does participate in an IM he won’t be competitive. He will never bike that much faster than the top tri pros that he would have enough of a lead to hold them off on the run. Plus he would be so far behind from the swim it would take a huge amount of energy just to catch up on the bike. Once he realizes the best he can do is relatively mediocre, he’ll train in the haphazard manner he trained for marathons. He likely wouldn’t even break 9 hours and would probably get smoked by Wellington.
