He’s in a no-win situation.
If he denies quickly, he’s giving credence to the accustations.
If he pulls a mark McGwire and does not deny, then he’s basically admitting.
He should just say something clever, like “same shit different day”, and people would laugh it off (maybe).
IMO, he should just pull a barry Bonds and claim that he thought what he was taking was “just for fighting cavities” (or something along those lines).
I’m hoping he doesn’t pull a Pete Rose and decide to confess in a tell-all biography (for profit) once he’s pushed into a corner.
He’s got a lot going for him. He’s Opie Taylor, He’s American, He’s a winner … and those 3 go a long way in this country. We can overlook a lot of stuff if you fit that description. Heck, we overlook a lot of stuff, even if you don’t.
Hmmm. Frankly, I am not sure what to think about all of this. There is a poll on CNN right now and the voting is running 77% that people think Armstrong is not doping.
I don’t agree. He has to reply quickly, it’s all over the f*cking press. Not replying would imply guilt.
I do agree the clever reply might be his best approach since he really has no way to prove anything.
Even if he did ever take anything he will deny it to the grave due to his emotional connection with the Cancer community. I just can’t see him admitting to something that he knows would devestate a group that have looked up to him so much outside of the cycling community.
You either believe him or you don’t. End of story.
I’m suprised that that hasn’t been more made about how the doping control lists were leaked. This seems like a huge breach of security. If you can’t trust the agencies involved to follow basic security procedures regarding documents, what other areas have been comprimised? And whoever leaked the list only bothered to identify one rider, seems very suspicious.
I liked his commercial where he said
“People are always asking and questioning what I am on. I tell them I am on my bike 8 hours a day every day.” OR something to that affect.
Without commenting on whether I personally believe he did or did not dope… I wonder what the vote would be if he wasn’t American? I wonder what the vote would be if he hadn’t had to beat cancer?
Just some interesting musings…
It is all suspect. Why wait 6 years to do the testing when they had the test I think in 2001. Also why only Lance and not the other 15 people that were supposedly testing positive as well. I did read an article from the testing facility in Quebec that also questions the lab in France.
It is just all bullshit as far as I am concerned.
I agree that the results would be different, but that question is irrelevant. it’s like asking - what if Peter Reid raced Dave Scott in 1986 - who would win???
Lance will go on the full on offensive tonight on Larry King. He will continue to say he never took any performance enhancing drugs. he will say look at what happened to my body with cancer do you think i woudl put anything else into it. he will say some nice things about the French and the ASO (even though he will want to tell them to fuck themselves) and finally he will reiterate how glad he is to be retired and how he wishes cycling could clean up the drug issue once and for all…
He has to go on record somewhere and Larry King is as good a place as any. He’s been at the Discovery HQ for the past 48 hours and I’m sure they (Bill S and the management crew) have gone over every statement he will make. He is a very smart man and very press savy. He will come out of this interview looking better then when he went in and the CNN poll will probably top 80% non-drug use by tomorrow morning.

I’m on my bike…six hours a day, what are you on?
“if he wasn’t American”
Like if he was French I doubt there would have ever been that article or any questions about EPO.
If you can’t trust the agencies involved to follow basic security procedures regarding documents, what other areas have been comprimised?
BINGO!!
I disagree. It’s entirely relevant to the reasons why voters (presumably Americans) tend to want to believe the guy when he says he never used PEDs. I think that if he were not American or had not battled and beaten cancer, people might have a different attitude. They might not. Certainly not irrelevant.

“…What am I on? I’m on my bike busting my ass six hours a day”
I’m surprised Lance hasn’t taken legal action.
At best, it’s violation of privacy. At worst, it’s outright slander. Either way it never should have happened and someone is laible. I’m not a big “sue em” type guy, but if I were in Lance’s shoes, I’d be pressing the issue.

The actual aommercial. I have the poster hanging in my bike room.
And Bush went to war on false intelligence… Yeah rite!
Yet he was re-elected…
**it’s like asking - what if Peter Reid raced Dave Scott in 1986 - who would win??? **
that’s easy - Dave Scott would win
We’re not talking about Bush unless he’s on with Larry King and Lance.
Why, in any discussion, is there always one fool who has to inject his politics into it, regardless of the subject?
