Lance did not win 6 Tours?

Check this out:

http://www.letour.com/2005/TDF/LIVE/us/300/index.html

Then go to the bottom of the left hand menu, under “History” click on “The Tour since 1903”, in the Search By Country section, select United States from the country drop down menu and leave the other drop downs in the default position (All The Year and The participations). Finally click on the Find button. Look at Armstrong, Lance results and there you have it, Lance did not actually win all of the races you think he did!

According to the Tour’s official web site, Lance finished 2nd in 2000, 3rd in 2001, 7th (Yikes) in 2003 and 2nd in 2004. Now I know some French folks, especially media, have a bone to pick with Mr. Armstrong, but c’mon, a win is a win is a win, right? Or is this a big cover up, a big conspiracy?

Should I start wondering about the US of A actually landing a man on the moon? Another Mr. Armstrong no less!!! I think I am beginning to see some cracks in the “truth”, help me pull all the threads together agents Fox & Mulder…

The default is for participations.

I am not sure what that means but if you change it to victories it shoes up correctly.

hmmm…well I checked the site and followed the steps you mentioned and I see nothing but 1st from 99-04. Sorry, Mulder out!

Thanks for the feedback agent Mulder, I was just talking about if you look at the number in brackets next to the year, don’t click on the rider’s name to get the full, expanded results. If you look at 1999 it says (1er) which is the French short form for premier, or in English first (1st). But if you look at 2000 it says (2e) which is the French short for for deuxieme, or in English second (2nd). I can’t figure out what the heck else they would mean by these numbers in brackets because if you look at LeMond, Greg, it says 1986 (1er), 1989 (1er) and 1990 (1er). Please, if someone out there knows of another explanation for the numbers in brackets, clear up my confusion, I need to set my mind at ease (or maybe I just have too much spare time at work today!)

I think the placings you mention in your first post correspond to LA’s finishes in the prologues for each of those years. I haven’t looked at the site myself, but perhaps that is part of the explanation…

Ken

I’m not sure what those numbers mean, but if you look under any of the other search methods (victories, podiums, jerseys, etc) they all have Lance winning each year.

No, no. You see, this is the screen that I am talking about here. If you look at Armstrong’s participations, what exactly does the number in brackets after the year mean? I assumed it was the overall placing for the race but maybe you folks can clear up the mystery of what the numbers really mean. Again, remember that 1er means 1st in french, 2e means 2nd, 3e means 3rd and 7e means 7th. Someone suggested it was the placing in the prologue. Any idea STers???

I see what you’re talking about; some of the other riders’ info is goofy like that as well. Don’t really know what it means.

Sounds like French math, I guess. (apologies, Francois…
