Going back to his childhood:
i am curious to how well he will do, Conrad and Josiah have a brutal run that should be untouchable.
Lance will be up there but I doubt even top three, his run just isn’t there, we shall see what he can do in the water
Great Exposure for Xterra on any level
should be fun to watch
Anyone knows what channel will have this?
This is fantastic. Here is my prediction:
Conrad Stoltz
Josiah Middaugh
Lance Armstrong
Tim DeBoom
One of them may DNF, but this is how I’m calling it.
Anyone knows what channel will have this?
KWADA
.
Expect it to air 1 year after the race date. Wish I was kidding on that one.
“I enjoy the training,” Armstrong said. “It’s almost like therapy for me. …it’s easy to do and it’s cheaper than therapy…”
Yeah- it’s cheaper for him, because sponsors give him all the equipment. for the rest of us, it’s way way more expensive than therapy.
You get what you pay for in both Training and Therapy. Although I’d suggest that equipment-wise, you can get a lot of training in for not a lot of money. But if you add in coaching, higher end equipment, time away fro SO etc., that inexpensiveness changes.
I agree. I am racing and I have gotten loads of texts/emails asking/demanding if/that I will/must beat LA. My problem is that I should be able to ride and run near his speed, I will come out of the water well behind and won’t even see him on the course.
Will be great fun regardless…
Cheers,
Good luck to those doing the Xterra. Those events are so much fun.
I imagine there are a lot of non-tri people asking WTF is an Xterra.
Sorry Jack. He’s got your number in all three. But, good luck with that. I think that the Caveman might have some catching up to do after the swim, and depending on the downhills, some hard work to do when he hits the bike.
I’m also doing a tri!!
I’m going to get destroyed on the bike, but my goal is to beat his time on the run. I think I can do it. Good luck to you.
Tex,
Course starts with about 15 straight miles of steady climbing with a little non tech single track thrown in. Last 3-4 miles there are some switch back descents where caveman will make time back up but it’s hard to see him getting time on the first section. It’s a pure power course, about 3500 up and 1000 down in elevation. If Lance can swim with lead swimmers based on last years results that would put him about 1 min up on Caveman. Last year Caveman out rode the nearest person Lebrun by 3 mins, Middaugh by 5 mins. If Lance puts about a minute on the field, which doesn’t seem unreasonable he’ll need to run about a 39 to hold on since Conrad ran 37 and change last year to win by 5 mins. Can he do that? I’d guess he’s going to be more in the 40-41 min range for the 10k but it should be interesting. I hope Xterra takes advantage of this publicity and gets some live tracking up!

Is this the official website: http://www.xterraplanet.com/news/
Couldn’t find a single mention of Pelota.
What are the run form fitness guesses based on? Has made public recent swimming and cycling ability as of late. When he was doing running before, he stated he was half assing it. Did his first marathon on a 12 mile long run. Is there some recent run data to base any assumptions on? Back when he was casually running, he said his 10K was around 33min. Don’t know much about what he is doing on the run these days…
Reply was to you because you were on the bottom. This was more to the people guessing on run ability.
Of course they are just guesses! I’m basing mine on the fact that he’s run low 2:40 marathons and has a pretty “good” aerobic engine. On a normal course I don’t think he’d have too much trouble with 5:45 - 5:50 pace for 10k off the bike. Add altitude, hills and rocky trails, 6:30 - 6:40 pace seems like a reasonable guess.

Thanks, after my crash this morning, my goals are to arrive in Utah able ride and run at all.
Those are reasonable assumptions. The 2nd post in the thread said he will be up there in swim and bike, but run is just not there. There was no reason stated why they thought this. Was wondering if there was info out there I did not have, leading to better run form estimates. Your guesses make sense, although with swim and bike knowledge being publicly know/shown, I am wondering if he has maybe been running hard/alot and is saving an ace up his sleeve. I don’t think he would enter without believing he could be in contention. Who knows? He may also be relying on his swim/bike combo for a buffer…
