Yeah, I agree, usually I am a fan of The Onion, but this is crossing the line

I read this posted on two other forums this morning, except all mention of the onion had been left out - giving the impression that it was real… I posted to say it was phoney, but I wonder how many people have read this today and believe it…
However, I don’t think the Onion has “Gone too far” as this is really no different than other things they write. I’m sure most articles offend some group or another, today it’s cyclists and cancer survivors…
Since “funny” is a completely objective word.

This is mild compared to a lot of their stuff. Saw one where they were making fun of the 911 memorial “NYC dedicates big hole in the ground as 911 memorial” or something like that.
It’s The Onion, people need to recognize that it’s sattire and humor. I heard an interview with one of the editors on the radio discussing a meeting they had right after 9/11 to decide how they would deal with it. And the guy basically said they all agreed, “We are The Onion, people come to us for humor, let’s try to find some humor so as to keep some sense of normalcy.”
I think finding humor in a situation doesn’t have to mean it is disrespectful.
By the way, he mentioned some of the post-9/11 headlines they decided not to use. My favorite was “‘Everything Alright:’ Declares Quadragon Official.”
