Lake Zurich Tri Smackdown?

Who is in? I know Linhardt will be there and a possible lurker.

I am shooting for 2:13 and to retain my top Clydesdale title(please no fat guy jokes, any more stress and I’ll break down and eat the donut on my desk).

Pssst… You know Macca switched to Specialized

Yep! Its a sweet ride and American Made!

Shooting for sub 2:20…

I’ll be racing on tired legs but think its possible…

I’m doing it. It will be my first olympic distance race in 10 years and I’m doing Steelhead the day before. This might be interesting.

Yep! Its a sweet ride and American Made! You know that’s not a good thing anymore

Why don’t you do Steelhead? Is it the same weekend? You seem too fast for me anyway.

I was going to do Steelhead but I bailed. I had some nagging injuries from past IM’s that made it very difficult to do any long distance training.

I’m in for the race - gee, 2:13 for a clyde is pretty dang good! Wave to me as you pass by!!

I’ll be out fast in the swim - and I’d expect to see you pass me on the bike - I’m a little concerned by the update just sent via email on the road conditions - don’t need another flat on the bike (would be 2 tri’s straight)!!!

Im riding part of the course tonight, I can give an update tomorrow.

Perfect - I’d really appreciate it - justs pondering wether to bring 1 or 2 spare tubes with me - with my luck, I’ll need AT LEAST the 1!!

I hear the water’s going to be warm, too - can you please tell me why anyone would wear a wetsuit in 80 degree water? Doesn’t even sound comfortable!!

I rode twice recently in a 1 week period and flatted both times. One at Racine, the other during a long training ride. Hope no one else has that much bad luck.

We couldn’t get a babysitter so I’ll be out there w/ the kids cheering on the wife and you guys. Looks like it’s going to be a warm one.

I easily have that much bad luck - just watch!!!

ED - How’d the ride look? Are the roads in decent shape??? Thanks!!!

I forgot my helmet so I wasnt able to ride the course, but I did drive most of it. Most of the roads look to be in good condition. Rand Road is a little rough but its not as bad as Lake Shore Drive and your not on it that long. There is a short stint through a neighborhood that I didnt go through, it should be ok, just a couple tight turns.

good luck!

Fantastic! Thanks for the update - good luck to you as well - hope to be crossing the finish line about the same time as you!!

Thats going to hurt!

I’ll hopefully be there… been fighting a stomach/intestinal thing all week, and I don’t want to risk dehydration on such a hot day if the bug doesn’t clear up all the way.

Regarding roads… I assume at least the long stretches on Old McHenry & Fairfield are in good shape (I drive/ride these somewhat regularly).

That 2:13 time is a good reason for me not to bother racing Clydesdale… I wouldn’t be competetive there, either!

2:13 is a goal, not sure if its a reality. My PR there is 2:15, most races ive done this year Ive been taking off about 2 to 3 minutes so hopefully the trend will continue.

Congrats everybody on finishing.

I woosed out.

Waking up at 5am and looking outside seeing rain and lightning I said f-it.

The thought of biking to the start(4 miles away) in the rain, followed by waiting interminably while they decide whether to hold the race at all and then running a 10K in wet shoes did not sound fun.

I turned off my alarm and slept in.

As the weather improved(stopped raining and the sun came out) I decided to run to the finish to drop off my chip. Concidence would have it I saw you(Ed) finish strong.

As I finished my run I am glad I did not start as the humidity was quite bad and I would have had a miserable 10K.

This is my second DNS(did not start) and it is getting easier. The first was deciding not to drive 8+ hours through an ice storm to a marathon. This was just the fear was losing some sleep and getting a little wet. Next DNS might be a bad hair day

Have a great Accenture sprint.

You missed an epic race. The race director did a great job keeping everyone informed and we went off around 8am, about an hour late. During that time they played all kinds of rain themed songs like It’s Raining Men and the RD did a good job keeping everyone’s spirts up. Eventually a couple of racers got in their wetsuits and slip and slided through a 6 inch puddle-lake. It was so miserable it was fun. Everything was sopping wet, a flood went through transition and the way out of transition was about 10 inches deep. Then the sun came out during the swim and by the time I finished all my clothes were dry. Great local race and totally worth $80!
