The website is vague regarding aid stations on the bike. It says ther will be two. Anyone know if that mean two per loop (for a total of four) or two total (one per loop)? Any idea where the aid stations are?
Is there much shade on the run?
Mass start or wave start? If waves, are they self seeded?
Are transition spots pre-selected (like at other IM races) or should I get to bike check-in really early to get a good transition spot?
Aid stations on the bike - believe one per loop
Not to much shade on the run
Heard wave starts but haven’t been able to confirm
Always get to check in early…on Saturday that is
Should be a good race but the 6:30 start time is gonna hurt - based on the forecast i guess we should expect heat:-).
Based on last year, there are two aid stations on the bike course and since you do the loop 2x that means you’ll have 4 aid stations. However, you’ll probably only use 3 of them. One is at the beginning of the bike (~ mile .5) and one about half way through (~ mile 13/14). So…on the first bike loop since you will just be coming out of transition there really is no reason to use the first one. Then you have mile 13, mile 28, and mile 45. Hopefully that makes sense.
No shade on the run and last year was unseasonably warm.
If I remember correctly, the numbers were assigned on the racks.
I’ll be there. Did it last year, so here are my answers to your questions:
There was 1 aid station halfway through the bike loop last year and 1 at the end of the loop. The station out on course was essentially out of water when I got there on my second lap (guy picked up and poured Gatorade bucket into my water bottle).
Shade on run? No. Well, about 100y per 6.5 mile lap… Much cooler along the lake out’n’back than on the city loop, though.
Wave start last year. 3x as many people this year + small boat launch area; I’d expect the same.
Transition spots were numbered last year.
At last there is some discussion about this race. I was starting to think that it was forgotten by ST ! Anyway, a couple more questions. Is there a practice swim the day before? Is transition grass/dirt/pavement? Any info about start times for the waves? Anyway to find out the water temp? OK, that was a few, not a couple of questions, but thanks for your help !
Transition was pavement last year, and the lake is open to the public the day before, so swim your heart out. I forget when they put the buoys up last year. Can’t seem to find wave info for this year, but last year they were 3 minutes apart. Also, last year, it was wetsuit-legal, but just barely. Much uncertainty on race morning as to what the temp. would be.
I got the info in an email from the race management company the other day. I thought that every one would of received it. Any way, here is the link to the info posted online.
I think I’m missing where packet pick-up as well. I’m guessing it’s at the hotel so they can have better attendance at the race briefing, but I may be wrong there.
It IS at the hotel, but that is only about 15 minutes of driving away from the lake.
From the website:
Join us at our 2007 Barclays North Ironman 70.3 Health & Fitness Expo at the Holiday Inn Everett located at 3105 Pine Street, Everett, Washington 98201. 425-339-2000 Registration and Packet-Pickup will take place during the hours of our fitness expo.
Friday, July 6, 2007 - 2:00pm to 7:00pm
Saturday, July 7, 2007 - 10:00am to 7:00pm
It seems a bit ill-conceived to have registration at the hotel. Yes, maybe there’s more room there. But for me, it means bringing my bike into the hotel for the registration since I don’t have a way to secure it in my car. I think there will be a lot of athletes carrying around bikes during the registration and expo.
