Lake Placid Training Camp #2

Just back from lake Placid Training Camp #2. Nineteen sponsors and supports Nigel Gray and his coaching program ( www.nrgpt.com ) and was a pleasure to be along for the weekend. Friday morning dawned with cold, wet( lashing rain) and windy conditions. MissP and I headed out do do one lap of the bike course with one of the Campers. It was a wet trip around, but after we warmed up we were OK. The big descent into Keane with the rain and the wind was extra fun at 70+Kmh!! Glad we brought ALL the cycling apparel. Later on in the day we cycled again and after that Demo’d Nineteen wetsuits at Mirror Lake.

Saturday was the big ride with many campers doing the full course or at least two loops less the out-and-back on the second lap. My job was to lead a group of NRG campers around and ride with as many people as I could. It was fun riding with many different people. There were several large training camps going on this weekend and hundreds of triathletes were out on the bike course this morning. It was very windy and cold again but for the most part sunny on Saturday( But many triathletes still kitted out in that classic tri-short and tank top out-fit. What’s with that? I was getting cold just watching them) Anyway, two laps for me, all bundled up and covered, less the out and back on the second lap so about a hundred miles. I helped pace several of the stronger guys in the camp up the big climb past Whiteface on both laps. I think that I am getting this climb dialed in!

On Sunday morning it was another demo session at Mirror Lake for me. The Fireman Ironman Training camp all 100 of them! ( www.firemanironman.com ) did a mass start swim and a number of people tried on Nineteen wetsuits. Many other people where out running one one loop on the run.

It’s remarkable how many people come to Lake Placid and train on the course on this weekend in particular

Thank you to Nigel and to Larry from Fireman Ironman and all the people that dropped by the Nineteen tent to ask questions and try out our wetsuits.

Best wishes to all those doing their final preps for IMUSA - enjoy the taper!
