Watched part of the Coach Troy Lake Placid ride this afternoon. The road conditions look like crap. For those of you who have done the race. How does it compare, or what are the road conditions? He even make a comment about using a carbon frame instead of a ti frame.
Kevin
Conditions are generally great. Every year they pave about another 8 miles of the course. This means that some parts are older (but not necessarily rough or slow) and some are silky smooth. This year they layed down new asphalt on the Keen downhill, which was probably the worst section.
To tell the truth, I’ve never really given the road conditions any thought at all, meaning that there was nothing to notice (except when they were working on the bridges a couple of summers ago.) Some of the bike lanes are worn, but on race day you have the entire lane so there are no worries. For perspective, I ride an aluminum frame (gasp!!!) with a 5:50-6hr bike split.
I would not worry one ounce about road conditions. It’s a fantastic course.
