Lake Placid - restaurant recs this weekend?

I’ve just arrived in LP for a solo training weekend and am looking for good places to eat tonight and tomorrow night. Nothing fancy - just filling!
Headed off to the lake for a swim now.
thanks!

While you’re at the lake, stop across the street at LP Brewery. Nothing better after a couple miles in mirror lake than a pub burrito (or ecto sandwich) and an Ubu.

Also, head over to Saranac Sourdough on saranac ave for sandwiches or chair 6 on the main drag in. Other than that, there’s no real standouts. The nice restaurants are fine, but not really anything to write home about. The rest, like jimmys, are kinda weak.

Mike’s Pizza across the street from High Peaks Cyclery rocks !

I 2nd the LP Brewery rec.

Caribbean Cowboy, while a tad bit pricey for certain dishes, serves some the best food around the LP area. It’s been my favorite place to eat the day after the IM for the past 3-years.

The best beer is at the Great Adirondack Steak and Brewing Company, IMO far better than Lake Placid Brewing, although that is good too. Also, the Hungry Trout, which is one the bike course and the entire staff mans an aid station on the out and back section of the bike. Great scenery at that restaurant too.

If your workout schedule permits you to eat a heavier breakfast at some point (like pancakes or french toast, etc. as opposed to lighter pre-workout type meal), The Back Bear, right up the hill from the swim start area has excellent breakfast. Both years I’ve done IMLP that has been one of the treats I look forward to for the morning after the race!

I was up there over Mem Day wknd and looking forward to starting off my day w/ some pancakes, home fries, bacon and a lake view at the Black Bear, but all I found was a big hole in the ground where it used to stand. Very sad.

Blackbear for breakfast.
Lunch Mirror Lake Cottage
Dinner Camerons for dinner

I can’t wait to get up there in July to watch the race…drunk

WHAT! I just read this You are shitting me no freaking way!

Man that sucks

It was demolished. Down to the studs. Not sure what they are going to build, but you can’t replace the Black Bear. Had a great breakfast at Chair 6. Food is excellent, but the kitchen is slow. Nicola’s on Main St. is a pretty good place for dinner. There’s a good lunch place at the bottom of the descent into Keene on the right hand side at the intersection where you make the left towards Upper Jay. Forget the name of it.

Not that I doubted you but I had to call my friends who own the Alpine Air to confirm. Yep it is gone.

Man, that sucks.

J,

Not exactly training-diet material, but make a point of hitting the barbeque place outside of town – “Tail of the Pup”, I believe. Good eatin’, even better than Wes’s Ribs…

For breakfast, it’s worth the trip down the big hill to Keene, to the Cedar whatever it’s called place, right there on the corner on the R.

Totally RULES for breakfast!!!

3rd LP Brewery, the open faced turkey is yummy, good burgers too.
Nothing fancy, just solid pub food.

Nicola’s is nice if you want something a little more upscale.

Mike’s is just OK. Not too spendy, decent and filling, but nothing to write home about.

Man, that TOTALLY sucks - that place was classic Lake Placid.

Hope you a had a good training weekend up there. Looking forward to seeing you kick ass up there in July

Man, the Jackrabbit, the Black Bear. What’s next? It’s as if the Russkies are finally getting their revenge for '80.

Cameron’s is a good, laid back place for a dinner.

I was shocked the other day to see a giant hole in the ground where the Black Bear used to be. They had great breakfast. Great Adirondack Steakhouse is excellent, I ate there last night after Epicman (what I did of it, I should say) and had a nice John Brown Ale with dinner. Mr. Mike’s is good as well for pizza and pasta. There’s a good Mexican place out in Saranac but I can’t think of the name right now.
