Lake Placid Lodging?

I am off to a bit of a late start and the condos I am looking at for race week are at the Whitface Club on Lake Placid (not Mirror Lake). They are saying it’s a 3 to 5 minute drive to town and race area. Has anyone ever stayed here? Is it convenient for family to get in and out? Any feedback is cool. I am trying to book today.

Jdog,

It’s more like a 10 minute drive into town. The turn off to Whiteface Club is just on the outskirts of LP as you are headed to Saranac. It’s all close, though your family could not walk to your condo from town…but could drive as the road is not closed or used as part of IMUSA if that’s what you are wondering about. Enjoy your stay! Your family will have a great time there.

They also run shuttle buses from a parking lot just as you come in to town. We were on the north end of Mirror Lake last year and my parents stayed in Saranac lake. They drove in early and left after I finsihed that night. They had no problems with getting in to town, parking, or leaving. have fun, LP is a blast!

I got into the Wildwood Inn just 1.5 miles away and on the souther tip of Lake Placid just a month before the race - I’d try them. Got a nice cabin with a kitchen, 2 tvs, 2 bedrooms, etc. Very nice.

We had a condo/cabin at Whiteface Club last year. Worked out great. As mentioned, the roads you’ll travel to and from on race day stay open. I don’t recall it taking 10 minutes…seemed shorter. It was very easy to get in and out of town for swims and the expo.
You are very close to a grocery store…and some restaurants…we found this to be a huge plus. It really is right out of town and very quickly quiets down…as far as traffic and congestion. This also gives you better roads to get in some pre race bike/run workouts. We were very happy with the location.

Just so everyone knows, I just booked a room last week at the Crowne Plaza across the street from the swim start. It’s pricey, but they still had rooms as of last week. Since everyone is over $200/night anyway, I decided $260 for the convenience of being right there was worth it. Plus it’s a nice hotel.

Stayed here in 2005 and have booked for 2007.

It is nice… but the hill to get up to the crown plaza is difficult before the race… My wife took a picture of me waddling up that sidewalk afterwards… She made it to the hotel with 2 kids, I was left behind and only halfway up with 1 kid… Great photo though…

That’s pretty funny. I didn’t think about going up the hill post race.
