I have contacted all hotels that I can find in Lake Placid and with the exception of the Crowne Plaza (a little too pricey for me) I have not been able to find any available rooms for IM week 2008. This is somewhat frustrating because when I was in LP this year the three hotels I actually spoke with regarding bookings said they wouldn’t take any reservations for IM week until September. Hmmm, guess that wasn’t the case after all.
So, now I’m looking for condo’s to rent. I have found some online but most have been booked or are extremely expensive. The LP visitor’s bureau hasn’t returned either my email or my voicemail messages and I’m getting worried. Is everything in LP already booked?
Does anyone have recommendations for condo rentals? I’m happy to book a big place as I’ll be able to fill it with family and/or other athletes I know are going. I just don’t want to stay in a campground the night before my first IM race. I really want to be in LP and not have to commute from Sarnac or other surrounding towns.
I am staying at the Crowne Plaza and while it is very slightly priced higher than some places, the convenient logistics to the start and finish are good for me.
While the Crowne Plaza is a little more per night they “only” have a four night minimum. My sisters rooms at the CP actually work out to be the same as mine at the Northwoods as a result. Just a thought. If you manage to find a cheap nice convenient place to stay in town pm me
I stayed at Pine Hills Condos this year and really enjoyed it, close to town yet nice and quiet plus it’s right near the bike and run course so anyone in your group who is spectating can get a good spot to watch plus be near the condo if they have to buzz back for anything. We had eight people in our group, four who were racing and two who were training for other races and had plenty of room for all of our stuff.
I stayed at the Whiteface Lodge this year with my wife and two kids. Accomodations were excellent. I also liked the location…close enough to downtown for easy access, but far enough away to escape the ironman madness. I’d go back in a heartbeat.
There’s a realty place in town that handles most of the rentals, Merrill Thomas Realty. Don’t expect finding a deal and don’t go by the fees listed on their site. You’re commited to the full week and houses that usually go for $4000…will go for $6000. As insane as that sounds…if you can get a group together and split a larger house, you may find that it’s cheaper than getting a hotel room.
People say the hills are the hardest part of IMUSA…I find paying for lodging far more painful.
I got a room at the Interlaken Inn. “Only” 4 days minimum stay. They had extra rooms when I made the reservations, so you may give it a try: http://www.theinterlakeninn.com/
