Does anyone know what the water temperature is in Lake Michigan? I need to get in some open water swimming but I do not want to freeze myself sterile. Specifically, I’m looking for temps in Chicago.

I live on lake Erie and the news yeaterday said it was 51 degrees - Lake michigan has to be very close to that. Hope this helps
That is still pretty cold. Damn.
Last night on the WGN news they said the lake michigan water temp was 54.

That’s a nice map. Those warm spots near the shore are interesting. For example, that big orange/yellow area on the SE shore near the Steelhead Tri - I think there’s a nuclear power plant right there.

It’s actually illegal. Wiith a wetsuit and squid lid the temp felt fairly comfortable. The water was very flat. I suppose my penalty will be to escape from alcatraz-my incentive for getting in this early.
