Lake Geneva Report/ Who won Goolsbee's pool?

Did LG Oly for the first time this year. Heard lots of bad reports on race organization. Overall I’d say that “Low Budget” Frank deserves his rap. I watched him talking to several people throughout registration and he’s something of a tool IMO. He is not a tri guy and his heart doesn’t seem to be in the sport. His races don’t benefit anything and I suspect he cuts corners to turn a profit for himself. I avoided the long registration lines by showing up at 9:30 p.m. so that went smoothly. Race day: Beautiful day, no major problems, though the course markings could still use more improvement and getting into and out of transition gets a little bottlenecked. My one major criticism. I know some people rejoice at the short swim distance. Call me a purist or whatever, but i felt ripped off. It isn’t fair to compare this time to my (or others’) Oly times. I had a PR in this race by 15 minutes (2:32) b/c that swim was way too short, in spite of those brutal hills. I came out of the water in 15:30. Anyone who wants to figure their “true” time should about double it according to my best guess b/c i’m usually a 29:00 minute guy in the Oly. With GPS, Frank should be able to measure the swim within 2 yards. He obviously FUBARed the distance and didn’t even try to be accurate. Anyway, beautiful day, excellent course with a run every bit as challenging as they say. Bike was rolling hills and scenic. Overall, i had a fun day but the race director is, to be charitable, unimpressive. I’m thinking of e-mailing him and asking how he screwed up so badly and seeing if he’ll give a credit towards next year’s race. Or maybe i can use this swim time to make it into the “elite” division in the Chi tri next year. . .

Goolsbee, who won the pool on predicting your 1/2 IM time???

“For some sports you need a ball. For triathlon you need two.”

Harkin Banks was within about 20 seconds at 6:15. But he did get lucky that the swim was at least 15 minutes short.

The run was brutally hot and hilly and I melted by the end. At least I finished.

I had a sense the swim would be short…

What do I win?

I think the sprint swim was 1/4 mile rather than 1/2 mile based on my time from last year and the fact that last year the turnaround buoys for the supersprint were the two yellow ones which they used as the sprint turnaround buoys this year. We better be careful complaining too much about the swim being short. Frank may get mad and make the swim too long next year.

I’m thinking of e-mailing him and asking how he screwed up so badly and seeing if he’ll give a credit towards next year’s race.
You think you are going to be the first to tell him he is an idiot? I promise you wont even get a reply…someone at best should talk to the city and try to take over the race as RD.
