Anyone have an opinion on the race - THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL??? I’m considering it this year but don’t know much about it. I know the area well…
Thanks!

Yikes! OK - that may convince me - don’t need a car barreling down at me going 70mph in an unmanned intersection!
Even if it were sanctioned, I would suggest you stay away from that race, or any Frank Dobbs production. I did the 1/2 IM last year and it was a disaster. My inlaws have a condo in LG about 1/2 mile from the start, so I figured it would be fun and great timing just before IMH.
Well, from registration to the awards, nothing was remotely organized. Reg took 45 min. despite a short line and basic procedures. The race started late (granted it was cold and a bit rainy). The course was poorly marked and had no officials. Thankfully my father in law took me out for a drive on the course or I would have never known where to go. I was 2nd out of the water and was in the lead on the bike by mile 2. If I didn’t know where to go I would have gotten lost. Apparently several athletes did get lost. I never saw a USAT official or anyone on a moto. The course though was nice and rolling and very “midwest”. The run is all up and down, and again, very picturesque. The aid stations were adequate, although the volunteers were amazed when I took 2 cups at a time! Since there is a sprint, Oly and 1/2 all on the same run course at the same time, it’s a bit crowded, but not bad. There is pretty good crowd support as well.
They didn’t even have an announcer at the finish line. That was a bummer since it was only my 2nd overall victory. It was pretty cold at the finish, so I quickly got my stuff and got back to the condo. I was told awards would be at 2, so I had plenty of time to go back, shower and return. When I got back at 1 45 the place was pretty empty. The awards had gone off early due to the weather. I asked someone if they really did an awards ceremony and was told not really. They just called out some names and people just walked up. I received a Timex watch for my victory. They were also handing out boxes of Amino VItal recovery bars. Too bad they expired a month earlier.
I wish someone would take over this event and make it better. The venue is great, the timing perfect and the town seems to enjoy it.
