Anyone intending to do the Lake DeGray Half in Arkadelphia, Ar this weekend. The high is expected to be 100 degrees. Should be a lot of fun! Hopefully I can suffer through the run and finish, but the heat will be ridiculous.
Best of luck. I really enjoyed the race a few years ago and hope to be able to go back soon. It’s definitely a scorcher though!
Bump to see if I am the only one doing this race.
Sadly, 100 degrees would make this the COOLEST race in 3 years!
I’m passing on it this year. Love the venue, but I have no plans to register for that race until the last minute in the future and I’m not doing it again until the forecast is 90 or less.
I guess it is all relative. 100 is still damn hot, especially with the humidity.
Have you done it before?
No, I did the sprint last year, but this is a new venture for me.
I am in. I have been doing my runs at Noon all last week just to try to get used to it.
This week, everything in doors though, can’t recover in this heat. ( I know all you northerners think we are crazy, but we go indoors during the summer and outdoors during the winter!)
Rick, you racing?
Last year was miserably hot. In my hotel room watching the 10 pm local news the night before the race, it was still 96 degrees. It put me in the survival/training mode mentally rather than racing mode, which is never good for me. I can train without driving to the middle of nowhere and staying in a dingy motel.
One tip, if you have any desire for a post race beer, buy before you go. Good luck.
Think “Groundhog Day”.
I am driving down Friday evening, staying in Hot Springs (nothing available in Arkadelphia), and will likely start “survival” mode once I get to the hotel. I was hoping for lower 90s, but I suppose you play with the cards you are dealt. I do not think it will adversely affect me on the swim (obviously) or bike (wind resistance), but the run will probably be 15-20 minutes slower than normal.
It’s projected to be 106 here in Hot Springs today. That’s thermometer temp. But a major break in the heat by the weekend and projected to be 97ish on Saturday though. I’m going to try and get my ride in early and get over there to watch the finish. Good luck.
Nah, I decided on Wool Capital for $$$ reasons. I’m saving myself for Prairieman. The way I look at it I’d rather DNF close to home rather than spend all that money and DNF with nothing but a 4 hr. drive home:-) Good luck bro!
How far is it to the race site from the southern side of Hot Springs? Think I am staying at the Comfort Inn on Central Avenue.
Well, since you’ve done “some” of the course you basically know what to expect. Just don’t let anyone tell you the bike is flat! And looks like they added some more hills to the run? Anyway, just a little to think about other than the heat so you can plan accordingly. Good luck
Straight shot out Hwy 7/Central Ave. about 20-25 minutes or so. Quick and painless. You’ll be right by the bypass on Central.
