Lake Arrowhead tri, road or tri bike?

might be in the area this weekend and was reading the course description. “one of the most technical bike courses you will ever experience, lots of corners and hills, 900 ft of climbing in 10 miles”
Anyone done it? road or tri bike? comments on the race it self?
thanks

Hi Paul, there was an article this morning in the Orange County Register about this race and one of the organizers said he recommends using a road bike. I haven’t done the race myself so can’t answer that one. If you go, have a great time and let us all know how it went.

I did it one year, with my tri bike (only bike I have), no problems - won my AG. But, yeah, you’ll be shifting through the gears, so you probably want to choose based on your comfort level doing a lot of shifting. There’s some patches that may have you out of the saddle, too. Watch that crazy right-hand turn at the bottom of the hill, go too fast and you’ll end up in opposing traffic!

I’ve done this race 3 times. You can certainly do it on a tri bike but you will spend little to no time on the bars. I would be riding my road bike if I hadn’t broken my collarbone. I’ll be there to volunteer, very fun race.

Raced last year with a tri bike, i’ll do the same this year. Still thinking about the disk or just a 404??? Not sure yet.

I did the race in 2005 and definitely spent only about 10% of the ride in my aerobars! Road bike would be the call. Plenty of climbing and fast curvy roads.
