Lady rider with a saddle problem

Hi everyone,

I have a bit of an “intimate” question for lady riders (or men with girlfriends/wives/SO)… I got a piercing last October that makes riding a bike a bit more interesting - if you catch my drift.

I’m riding a Selle Italia SLR and man-oh-man… I’m not feeling good after an hour. Wondering if any one out there knows of a great, comfortable racing saddle (not necessarily tri-specific) that will be forgiving on my tender bits.

My boyfriend and I would both appreciate any help I can get

between this post and your sig line…you sound like one badass mama hope someone can help you figure it out
.

switch your piercing for a piece of fishing line loop before and after riding! That’s the only thing I could think of!

I can see a lot of responses to the fishing line idea!!! ouch!!!

I can’t speak for the piercing, but the terry family of saddles with their cut out has worked well for me. I have several of them and am about to buy another. They make them in varying widths for racing too. I like the Butterfly, Liberator ti race and am looking to buy a Zero or Damselfly.

This may be your only serious response to this post. The guys are going to have a field day with this one…

I’m a genuine nice guy who shaves his legs and wants to talk about your bike.

Call Dave @ Elite Bicycles and order one of his saddle covers. It gives a bit more padding and should solve your problems.

My friend had similar fit problems with a saddle but not due to any piercing. We work out at a bike fit place with a Computrainer and there is a saddle tree with the saddles of all those that tried and did not like the particular saddle. So it was a matter of trial and error and now she has found one that she absolutely loves and no irritation on certain parts of her anatomy. The bike shorts also were an issue as she found that more is not necessarily better as it tended to get into places that ah probably would be best that it not go there. One naive suggestion - can the pierced item be removed while biking as that seems the simplest solution.

Thats what I say, just remove the piercing for riding and to keep the hole from closing put a fishing line through it!!

Hey attybiker

Do you remember what saddle it was? I’m still working on the same problem with my wife, not the piercing just the soft bits.

Thanx for any help!

Dan…

I have a speddshe saddle that is quite comfy. It is specifically designed for women. I don’t think anyone makes a saddle with the piercing issue in mind, but I would definately look into female specific models. Make sure you invest in shorts with a really good chamois, the cheap ones make you pay in other ways. I can epathize, I hae a naval ring and have to be careful about where my waistband lays, not quite as sensitive an area, I realize.

Nah, Dave and I don’t get along too well  Thanks for the advice though!

The other thing about the fishing line is that it won’t cause any infections or anything like that. I went to private school and piercing was prohibited. We pierced our ears and we used fishing line loops to go to school so nobody would notice (at least from a distance)!

Nothing exists unless we have a photo!

Thanks for the advice KEJ, i have the naval bar too, but i just roll down my shorts so they ride closer to my hips. I have a female specific saddle for my mountain bike and it’s great, but i need a lighter one for my road bike

Yes. It was a Xenon seat. I believe Koobi makes them. Claims it solved the problem for her. Again, I think everyone needs to experiment and try different saddles to see which one works for them.

Good Luck.

My wife just purchased a Specialized Alias for her road bike. She really likes it.

Call Dr. Bodyglide for an appointment.

I haven’t removed it since I got it, but maybe i’ll give that a whurl… don’t know, might take some practice.

Good Luck!

If you listen closely, you can almost hear the blood pressure rising as some people on this forum restrain themselves from some very obvious smartass comments…

More seriously, is there any possibility of a different metal part, which would hopefully be of lower profile, replacing the current metal part??? Maybe something in carbon, or even better, Campy carbon… Realistically though, I really just can’t see any way that this is going to be comfortable…

OTOH, finally a post that’s different. Discussing aero this, interval that can get a little mundane and has been hashed out 113209487321 times in the past. But I think we may have finally gotten onto a topic that has NEVER been discussed here… Well done Java_Jane.
