La triathlon sucks...again!

We havent even gotten to race day and both Glyn and I have decided this is the last year we are doing this race.

  1. Went to the expo this morning…at check-in they INSISTED that we wear the race band on our right arm. We said we always wear them on the left because our Polar Watch is on our right arm. She said this is the way it is to be done…way argue with someone that is 300 lbs that probably hasnt ever done a triathlon. Yes, she is a volunteer, but does it matter?

  2. Had to turn your T2 bag in with your race belt AND bib number, run shoes, and running hat BEFORE you got your t-shirt and goodie bag inside the expo. GET to the expo to get a shirt and they said, "WHERE is your BIB NUMBER??? Well dumb arses…you just had me turn it in before I could come in the expo…they siad go get it…NO!!! Had to get a race official to go and get our 2 shirts…they are promoting that it is a BROOKS technical shirt and want to make sure no one steals them…at that point I was like I didnt really care about the shirt…BUT they were making everyone go back to get their BIB numbers…mass chaos. Thought we should sort it out for eveyone else.

  3. You pay NO LESS than $100 bucks for this race and they want you to pay another $20 bucks/person to use the shuttle or park your car in downtown LA overnight for about 40 bucks or if you are lucky you have a family member.

At Vineman, San Diego Intl, and I’m sure others it is INCLUDED with the race fees being more resonable.

BUT this is LA right???

Just did Chicago Triathlon last week and now I know why they get 7,500 hundred athletes and Malibu sells out months in advance and LA doesnt even come close.

Hopefully tomorrow goes better…

God would have mercy, John Rambo won’t!

Colonel Trautman would be dissappointed hearing John Rambo whine.

Is Jack Caress the race director?

  1. Only pussies wear watches on their right wrists.

  2. They specifically told me (early Friday afternoon) to pick up the shirt and “goodie” bag before dropping off the T2 bag.

  3. You do have a bicycle.

hey alan you sound like a prick, I hope you get a fuckin flat tomorrow
.

A classic ST post (seriously)

I think they’re adopting that phrase as the “Peaceful Tribe” motto.

Hey Rambo,

You obviously have pre-race jitters. That’s normal and I don’t hold it against you.

If you think the race sucked in the past, why do you do it again?

Point to point races are always a hassle. You should know that by now.

LA isn’t some resort or at the countryside.

Nobody forced you to do the race. If you regret your decision, deal with it.

Good luck tomorrow.

P.S.: That’s why I “only” do the sprint at Pacific Coast, although I would be perfoming better at an Oly right now. Nothing beats rolling out of bed and having a 15 min. bike ride to the race.

I’m racing in LA on Sunday (collegiate - go UCLA!) and I also volunteered at the packet-pickup on Friday. Everyone helping out the last two days is human…we all make mistakes. I had the opportunity to talk with several of the Pacific Sports staff and watch them in action. Believe me, they were doing an awesome job (especially with people who had special concerns and circumstances)…and I say that from both sides of the registration table. I for one am totally stoked!! Go Bruins!

Dude,

I registered this am and they specifically told me to get the “goodie bag” first before giving them my T2 bag.

I did an Olympic+ distance race in Galveston this spring. It was expensive and pretty bare bones I guess. I really did not notice all of that crap, did not get upset like most did, had a PR, 9th overall and 3rd in my age group. My point? Why worry about the extranious stuff. Race your race, you probably do not need any more T-shIrts anyhow, worry about the quickest way to get through your transitions, not the expo! Life is too short to sweat the small stuff, and don’t ever give a volunteer a hard time, especially in front of me.

At least for the $100 + entry fee, we get a shirt that won’t immediately make its way into the rag pile. The shirt this year kicks ass.

For the $160. bucks that you paid for a olympic distance I could pay 25$ more to do the big kahuna half…I did this race 3 yrs ago and what a rip off this was. I did this race when I first started doing Triathlon and havent been back since…Way to much for an olympic…If u want to do a race that travels through the city than do the bike race before the LA marathon…way better than the tri…and home b4 8 a.m.

“why argue with someone that is 300 lbs that probably hasnt ever done a triathlon”

And I’m the prick?

Maybe, but at least I don’t have a stick up my ass.

Good luck tomorrow:)
