Kuota uses 1-1/4" forks...why

what’s the deal? saw the spec sheets on these things today…what’s up with this odd size? so they can sell more stems or not allow folks to upgrade?

anyone know? Tom D.?

Because they are evil and planning to take over the world.

Well, the website is acting funny, but I’m pretty sure it’s just the Kredo that’s 1 1/4".

…you’re right - but there’s something weird about the Kalibur too…looks like it’s tapered?

The top of the steerer is the standard 1 1/8, but it spreads to 1 1/4 (or whatever it is) at the bottom a la the old Trek 5900. Didn’t like it on my 5900 as I went through the combo race/bearings faster than tires then, and it’s the only complaint I can come up with about my Kredo now. The 5900 had very poor quality Cane Creek race/bearings - the Kuota’s come with FSA headsets and the jury is still out on bearing quality (I went through 6, count 'em six, FSA BB during cross season this past year, so I’m not overly confident). I hate “proprietary” headsets - they’re just a bad idea no matter who manufactures them.

Cane Creek and FSA headsets /bearings are synonymous - they are both come from the same manufacturering facility/process.

Wonderful.

It’s because more is always better, as in “but this one goes to 11”
