You get yet another 70.3. http://www.usmevents.com.au/Triathlon___Multi_Sport/Ironman_Mandurah.htm. That makes something like 7 70.3s and 4 full ironman races in a country with about 2/3 the population of California. I just wish it was easier to get to.
We have lots of Starbucks here as well…
Sorry to chime in like this, but I think you’re missing a few things.
I think we have six 70.3’s now, but from where I live in Brisbane (2million people), the closest 70.3 events to me are Cairns with a 3 hours flight or Port Macquarie which is an 8 hour drive. To get to this new event it’s a 5 hour flight and another drive in Mandurah.
Imagine the races you could get to in the States with this amount fo travel!
I think it is seven, but if I could count, I would be richer than I am. And as far as lots of travel, I am pretty sure if you live in LA or Washington DC you have similar travel to WTC events. But you are correct in that I am no doubt missing something since I have never been there. But I do hear Brisbane is lovely.
i live in mandurah and this has been in the pipeworks for a while. Unfortunately there were hold ups trying to get the bike course to be 2 laps, where as some parties wanted it 4 laps thus not to cause too much traffic concerns.
I dont know how big this thing will be, its only just now been advertised and its in october. Not alot of time if your a newb wanting to have a go and need to train. I just think they would have been better off making the announcement for 2013 and creating a bigger, more organized event, as i have a feeling this one is too soon and could end up a bit of a mess. Happy to be proven wrong.
And all the events sell out…
