at chatt we got our chip at check in, not in t1 the day before.
A few questions on my mind since Chattanooga that Iâm sure you data gurus have locked down
- Whatâs is the âKona Standardâ for this course? I heard that thrown around a few times on Monday
- What was the time of the final slot taken in the 30-34 AG?
- Is it still an endless roll down or does it eventually get to a point of âsorry youâre too slowâ and the move the spots to a diff race?
Thanks!
Kona standard is the same across all events. They will roll the spots until the last spot is taken regardless of position in the field. There were many 70.3 NA races that rolled through the field for spots in Nice.
Edited to add the latest Standard

- What was the time of the final slot taken in the 30-34 AG?
The way rolldowns work now is not by age group. Everyoneâs time is multiplied by their AG handicap (Kona standard) to get an age graded time. Everyone is then ranked according to this adjusted time.
In this race there were 25 PP slots available to Men and 9 to women. Once the age group winners are sorted the remaining PP slots are handed out to the top ranked age adjusted times for 25 men and 9 women. If any of these athletes decline the slot it moves to the 26th and 10th and so on until all spots are taken.
Specifically in Chatt full 2026 the menâs age adjusted time you needed to beat to get the 25th slot (after age group podium winners were sorted) was 9:17:25. If you scale this back to the M30-34 using the kona standard this would be a 9:23:19 clock time for that AG
I didnt keep track of the womenâs side sorry if you meant W30-34
Just for clarity when you say check in, I THINK you mean packet pickup at registration, not at Bike Check In/Drop off at T1 the day before the race. In any case, I think they need to count whomever they gave a chip to as a starter, or use the signal when the chip first crosses the timing water at swim entrance as a starter (the latter would be most precise and reflective of who showed up to play)
correct, I arrived on Friday. I had my QR code scanned by a volunteer and first thing they did was give me a chip. Then I got my packet, then backpack, then bib before walking out of the athlete check in tent.
Then Saturday I went to transition to drop my bike and bike/run bags
Sunday was the race
Thanks! This make much more sense to me now! The menâs 30-34 has no scalar though right so they score against actual time?
Very petty, but procedurally it would be pretty cool to see the handicapped scores across the AGs in the tracker or elsewhere. Seems funny that Ironman shows the Overall results but doesnât actually acknowledge an overall podium. Maybe Onyerleft or someone else has already done this?
Right no scaler for the M30-34 for 2027 so youâd have needed to hit that 9:17:25 exactly on the race clock chip time.
Ironman does rank everyone according to their AG adjusted times in a link in the app. Here is the menâs for example
I donât think this is available though until after finishers start coming in and is updated until results are final
As a point of order, this is the old KQ standard, back when they were comparing women to the men. Mathematically itâs all the same since it just scales to F30-34 = 1, but worth calling out.
Thanks, updated above.
