KOPS knee over pedal spindle for triathlon on time trial bike

Opinions and how much further have you gone?
.

I don’t believe in KOPS.

KOPS has little value for road bikes, and zero value for tri bikes.

KOPS as in the actual number of measurement has little value as every fit is different. For novice fitters it is ok starting point for a road bike fit. Let the physical assessment determine the setback or how forward the multi sport cyclist is. But years ago we felt that 8cm forward the rider started to feel the gravity pulling them down. Thanks to new bike and bar designs now that position can be further than that. Put your fit hat on and tailor the position for the client.

Opinions and how much further have you gone?I use KOPS when fitting a road bike (+/- 1 cm) simply to have a predictable starting point to fit from. I’m willing to go forward of 1 cm for athletes, but do not like to go aft of -1 cm if I can help it.

I, more or less, pay no attention to KOPS on a tri bike and am willing to go very steep.

I find it more useful to control the riders’ centre of gravity, relative to their hip (glute) function. This establishes how much of their body-weight they can apply to the pedals. I use a different test for tri vs. road fit.
