so besides no disc wheels, what is the rule… which wheels cant i use?
anybody???
I’m pretty sure that the only rule is no disc wheels. You should be fine other than that.
You can’t use the Hed kona wheel too. This is the wheel that looks like the Hed3d, but has small cutouts near the hub.
Just out of interest, why can’t you use Disc wheels at Kona?
I think I’ve heard that it is too windy down there - correct me if I’m wrong
.
A lot of the bike is through the big, open ‘plains’ - miles of open terrain with expanses of lava fields on both sides. The cross winds that develop are often significant enough to blow some people sideways off the road into the lava fields, even with spoked wheels. Allowing a disc wheel, or wheel cover, would make things a lot worse.
I think its more because of the gusts than the wind. If its a steady wind, u could always lean into it, but the gusts are unexpected and could cause a lot of swerving.
I thought most triathlete’s were too fat (see previous thread), but fat guys don’t get blown off bikes…or maybe they do because they are more top-heavy? I should’ve actually done my physics homework back in college… The last few years in Kona the cross winds have been unseasonably light on race day, I would stick with something like 404’s, 606’s if you have the means.
I know the Hed Kona Coast is out but what about the Blackwell 200mm??
