Kona Bikes

Was kicking around the website and noticed that Trek was the number 1 bike at Kona last year and is perinally in the top 3 for the last several years. Considering the Kona participants are the best long distance athletes in our sport was curious as to what that says about bike materials, seat angles, sponsorship etc. I don’t know of any steep angle bikes that Trek makes which makes me think that the best of the best are not riding steep bikes. Not sure that this conclusion can be drawn due to sponsorship etc. but was curious as I’m in the market for a new bike and looking for a versatile long course bike that is comfortable and fast. Not so concerned with price as with getting something I’ll be happy with.

As Dan has pointed out before, it says more about Trek’s distribution than it does about the technical aspects of the bicycles. Make no mistake, Trek bicycles are absolutely outstanding bicycles. However, triathlon geometry bikes are not their strength.

The meteoric rise of Cervelo to the number three spot says more about Cervelo, since there are so few dealers relative to Trek, than Trek being number one.
