Kona Bike Count - Top 25 - 4 yr comparison

Normann had little to do with the fall of Kuota. Just ask a former retailer.

interesting factoid: despite introducing a new TT bike (plasma 3) that has sex appeal and allegedly decent drag numbers Scott continues to decline.

That’s because trying to get your hands on one was like trying to pry shit from a wooden horse. I am not convinced they actually made any more than the one I purchased and I practically had to beg for that. The Scott count is in the nineties but I bet only a handful are Plasma Premium.

Even though Crowie’s success didn’t really boost Orbea sales, I am curious as to how his switch to Specialized and improved bike split will affect the Orbea count next year. I have to think it will have a pretty significant drop off.

Steve maybe in states but in bc they had no sales force except inside until this coming season. Stores out here never see a rep from cervelo. Even in states one sales rep handled entire western seaboard. They were lucky the bikes sell themselves

Is there someplace that has drag numbers for bikes. So if I were shopping, I can compare?

Look at Kouta they were steadly increasing now on the decline. I guess that is what happens when you sit back and watch.

This thread has got me worried now. I have been riding a Kuota for 4 years and I always liked the comfort of the bike and have no complaints. Am I really falling that far behind in the Aero department? I did notice that no one is riding them anymore and wondered what happened. Even Andy Potts rode one for a while then jumped ship. I guess this gives me a good reason to start shopping.

jackmott what kind of deal can you get me on a new Cervelo? I might be stopping in soon.

You can tell don or adam I sent you, don’t know if it will work!

Probably get some good deals on the remaining P1s, and some of the P2ks and P3 aluminums they have in stock though!

Jim Gourly, makes some interesting observations here:

Clearly their are winners and losers with this every year. Cervelo, is still a massive winner, and still pulling further ahead on total count, but Trek and Specialized and a few other brands are winners as well. But clearly some brands are in decline and it’s always interesting to speculate why.

Specialized has really thrown down the gauntlet with their pitch on the new Shiv, saying we could care less about the UCI rules - triathletes, here’s a bike we made specifically for you! No one else has done that or taken that approach. This is a big differentiator and it will be interesting to to see how many of these new Shivs will move based on that.

I bet next year specialized jumps up as much as trek did this year. assuming they can crank those frames out of the factory.

Does ATC actually have P3 aluminum frames available for sale?

yes, in 54 650c, grey paint white stickers.
new-old-stock

I think thats the only size they have.

Nuts…I’ve been looking for a NOS 55 P3SL for a long time…

Blue? Ceepo? QR? You mean “of the big boys…” and we can quibble over whether or not a year’s delay in making UCI-compliant SC9 hardware (bar, seatpost) available to the public qualifies as thinking of triathletes first.

No argument on how interesting the next year or so will be, though…for several brands.

I heard a cool story while in Hawaii about Trek that makes me think they really value the money that resides in triathletes wallets and that they want to make us happy!

It lead to an “argument” with my wife about always wanting new shiny things.

how about “wants to provide value for the money inside triathletes’ wallets” ?

the original version could get twisted into some sort of Occupy Slowtwitch argument. nobody wants that.

mmmm…shiny new things.

lol.

Bottom line is: I have money - you have shiny new things.

You want what I have and I want what you have!
