Kona 2012 power data numbers (1)

I don’t know what their FTPs were/are. I didn’t see Kelly’s file and honestly haven’t looked at Rachel’s. There have been enough files posted by the men so see how the race unfolds so that there really isn’t that much ‘new’ to be gained in terms of knowledge. Though Rapp’s file/analysis compared to the others does provide more insight. For the women, a lot of the top girls have traditionally not used power (TBB/BS), so there isn’t as much data. I think as more gets posted, you might see more share them…Amy for instance. But, I suspect that is why you don’t see Kelly’s right now. The women’s race is changing shape.

So, I think at this time there is something to be gained from looking at a top-10 finish in the women’s race. Linsey Corbin or Cait Snow for instance compared to Amy or another top girl. But, you don’t see it right now bc there is knowledge to be gained to some degree by analyzing the files and that will be kept close for a bit. Does that make sense?

Sure, makes sense. I’m not necessarily surprised by the lack of data from women because it was like that for a long time with the men. I was just asking to see if any data was available from top 10 women primarily because I was a bit surprised at what I was seeing from Rachel, Kelly, Joanna and Amanda. All of them rode much harder than I would ever recommend. In addition, all of them rode much harder than the men which is generally odd since women just tend to be more risk averse.

Now, I can suspect their FTPs aren’t correct, which would obviously skew their IFs/TSSs, but then that’s seems a bit coincidental given that all of them rode at the same level. I can also speculate that they rode hard and paid the price for it but I really don’t have enough data to say that either. And then I can just speculate they all did it for tactical reasons on this day. Either way, my goal is to avoid speculation obviously.

Btw, I’m not convinced that athletes or coaches can gain the type of knowledge from these files think they can, i.e., gaining a competitive advantage. But maybe I’m wrong…
