yes; this is what i get for paying attention to the reviews…which were chock full of praise.
would have been a decent rental; but at least was a fun date with my husband. the roomates really were hilarious. if it weren’t for them…i would have added it to the worst films thread.
I’m with you. EVERYONE told me how funny it was and while it did contain a few scenes that made me laugh out loud I can say that I definitely went in with expectations that were not met. My best friend told me that it’s funnier if you & the spouse have gone thru the pregnancy already. He thought (and was correct) that the gravity of some of the scenes couldn’t be truly appreciated by those of us that are unmarried without children.
i wasn’t expecting it to be transcendent or anything - i thought it was better than 40 y o virgin, and at least as funny as wedding crashers. and a lot like both.
i thought that some of the scenes were quite good, like the deniro imitation and the scene with the bouncer.
i thought those scenes were funny; the reviews just hyped it SO much, after reading them i think it’s impossible to come away without some sense of (albeit slight) disappointment.
there were 3 particularlly scenes (IMO): 1)when the chinese doctor asked them about smoking and pretended to smoke a cigarette himself; 2)the friends in the waiting room found wheelchairs and started crashing into each other, one of them pretended to have a voicebox on the wheelchair “people think i’m smart”; 3)the scene with Ben and Allison fighting at the doctor office and the nurse says “that happens here all the time”.
overall, we walked out smiling; and i agree parents would find it especially funny.
the friends and sister were the assets to the film.
My thoughts exactly. It had its moments. But, I have seen many better. Did they have to use the F word so many times? It was overkill. It was used so much, that it didnt add to anything.
My wife and I saw it over the weekend. We were hysterical laughing, but more so than most only because my wife and I recently had a pregnancy “scare.” We already have three kids and the fourth is not yet in the plans. Come to think of it, we really need to take further precautions to prevent further scares. Anyway, given our recent stress, humor related to the same stress was magnified. As for the worst movie thread…Meet Joe Black is the worst.
