Well I’m beginning to get real fed up. I’ve had the month of December pretty much completely off as a rest with maybe running once or twice a week biking once and swimming once a week. My plan was to begin training seriously again 1st January with a plan for a 1/2IM in Aug. I don’t know if this is what caused the problem but I decided to play a game of golf 2 weeks ago and 2 days later had a sore rihgt knee. At first it just felt tender behind the kneecap and slightly to the left of centre. I was real sore walking down hill.
since then i’ve tried running once and it was sore, but not sore enough to stop me running. Today I tried a 2hr steady bike (HR 125-130). It felt tender but again not enough to stop me riding. an hour after coming off the bike it’s no more sore than it was before going out on the bike.
I plan on seeing the doc over the next few days with the thought of maybe seeing the physio. Does anyone have any advice?
I popped a ibuprofen(Brufen - anti-inflammatory) 30 mins. before i went out on the bike this morning so that maybe dulled the pain somewhat.
My advice; don’t take ibuprofen before a workout to dull the pain. The pain is there for a reason. Afterword is ok to reduce inflamation. If you are new at this sport have someone check you bicycle cleats. Improper setup causes people a lot of knee problems. See a doctor, he’ll know a lot more than any of us.
It sounds like you have patella tendonitis. I’ve been battling this for the past three years. The Ortho surgeon I saw said to strengthen my quad to take pressure off my knees. Don’t run hills if at all possible and then gave me a Rx for heavy duty motrin. I’ve learned to just deal with the pain.
My bitch left knee and ITBS seems to have resolved, for what reason, I have no idea. The swelling and soreness is gone. I started using one of those chick nautilus machines, at the suggestion of someone here, where you spread your legs in and out (the glute machine) and I’ve had no problems since. I would do 3 sets of 65 repetitions in both directions every 3 days, while running the next day. I’ve got a racehorse ass now.
Dan needs to have a separate forum here called the “Knee Forum.” I can be gone for four or five days here and there will be 3 new knee threads.
