I am trying to diagnose my knee problem. I have always thought it was ITB, but I am now starting to wonder. I have been using the foam roller and stretching. Everything was feeling great. I was planning on an easy ride today. I was vacuuming and while I was walking backwards, I stepped onto my rigt toe and transferred my body weight to my right leg. The pain was what I have been feeling during exercise. It will not happen every time I try to mimic the action.
But I now feel the tightness i my knee again. Does this sound like ITB?
Time for you to visit the ORtho.
“during exercise”?
running, cycling or both?
During both! When I run it is classic ITB. It hurts going up and down hills. On the bike it hurts after long rides, standing on the pedals and while really hammering.
Everyday life it doesn’t hurt. I can feel a dull ache. If I go up stairs quickly it will tug at it.
I have had an ITB problem since january. I did as recomended, RICE, mostly rest, ibprofin, ITB streched and ice. It did get better and I am back to 90% trainning. But my ITB did go nuts last week when I was spepping backwards away fro am table. Big hurt for an hour or so. I don’t walk backwards now> Keep the streaches, Ibprofin and Ice
I am going to a Trainer tonight. I hope it is ITB and I can rehab out of it, but I fear it is something else.
If the outside of the knee, just above the top of the knee, slightly in front is tender or sore to the touch, it might be ITB. That is the point where the ITB attaches to the knee and the pain is caused by the ITB rubbing over the bone there. BTW I am not a medical person, just repeating what a doc said to me. There is a tremendous amount of info on ITB onthe web. My leg hurt especially on the run, and on the bike when I rode hard or up hill. I have been staying to the flats for both runs and rides for a month. I might venture iut into the hills in a couple of weeks
Good luck
This is why I am worried. My pain is on th eout side of my right leg, but it dead center, and below my knee. When it acts up it can spasm so hard that I can’t fully extend my leg. I mean it feels like a ice pick!
Get a good sports massage. Bi-weekly if you can afford it. Your therapist should be able to tell you if any of your muscles are out of whack. Your ITB will be tight as piano wire if that is the problem. My therapist is excellent at sports injury diagnosis.
One other possibility is you have bursitis in your knee. A common overuse injury. Unfortunetly, the best cure for bursitis is rest.
