If I am on my trainer or on a stretch of road with no stoplights and can pedal continuously for 45-60 minutes, I develop a shooting pain that points directly into the front of my kneecap. If I stop pedaling or have to stop for any period of time, it will go away and then recur in the circumstance first noted above. I haven’t noticed it on my road bike and plan on doing a trainer ride on my road bike tonight to see if I have the pain on the road bike.
My road bike is slackish at 72-73 degrees and I am comfortable riding in that position and my tri bike is upwards of 78-79 degrees.
I had a similar issue and this is the beginning signs of knee tendinitis. Generally it’s due to a position change on your bike. I would have your shop re-look at your bike position. It’s most likely an issue with your glut not firing properly, then pulls on the IT band and finally results in a knee issue.
Yes definitely get your fit checked by a tri fitter.
I had the same problem and just rode through it. Ended up on the sidelines for 6 months while injured. My seat was too low and positioning was too aggressive (80 degrees+) which can cause the knee to become over stresses and build a muscle imbalance which stresses it even more.
