I think biking hard has maybe sprained the inner ligament of my knee? If i am standing it is in the left area (maybe anterior portion of my knee) to the left of my kneecap inside. What is it? I have iced all day and I have to race saturday. I am contemplating getting a cortisone shot before saturday. Three years ago I was diagnosed with a medial meniscus tear, but the doc said operating on it then would be a 50/50 pain relief. So, I have been good for three years. Is this a sprain? No sharp pain. I just feel it a little bit when I walk. I did a six mile run tonight and I only felt it at a 7:00/mi pace. I slowed down and it went away. What do you guys thinK?
Might be insertional tendinitis of the VMO. I described similar medial knee pain in a thread a while back and got excellent feedback as always from rroof:

I disagree. Think about what you’re saying; “I HAVE to race Saturday”. Do you make your living through racing? Will someone die if you don’t race? With such a mindset, you will destroy your body in the process of fooling yourself. Your knee hurts for a reason - something is wrong, and it is telling you loud and clear. IMO, (I tend to be more on the cautious side), if something hurts, we rest it while we figure out what is wrong. IME (in my experience), I have found that just because the pain is gone that does not necessarily mean the injury has healed, rather it has only healed enough to not hurt.
I’m not suggesting you don’t race, because you won’t listen anyway. I have done the “I HAVE TO RACE” thing, too, and it has left me with lifelong problems from not listening to my body. As I age, I do the “do I feel good enough to race?” thing, but it has taken years to get here.
Spot on. When I had this knee issue at the tail end of last season I was fortunate in that it surfaced a few days before I was going on my honeymoon with my wife–for three weeks I didn’t do jack, no swimming, running, or biking, only hiking around. If I had been home I know I would of been tempted to “test” it out by getting on my bike–which is the only activity that caused slight pain.
When the trip was over, I was healed 100%.
Funny you say that…you are right…we don’t listen do we?
