What should I expect? How long to see results and so on?
Sorry to answer a question with a question, but…
Is your scan being done on an “Open” or a “Closed” system?
-This greatly affects the time (length) of the study.
Either way, you just lie still, on a table, with your knee wrapped in a snug device known as a “coil”. You’ll be slid, feet-first into what is essentially a large magnet.
The procedure’s totally painless, and not near the tortue session that some people say it is. Bring a favorite CD as they may let you listen to it.
Result turn-around time varies, but really shouldn’t exceed 24-36 hours.
Piece of cake!
mine took 20-22 minutes and the results came in less than 6 hours later, though I was told to expect 12-24 hours for them to be ready.
What tryemdad said.
I was in a closed one - no biggie, it’s not like even a claustrophobic person would have issues. (unless they weighed like 400 lbs)
The only surprise to me was, it makes quite the racket!!! I was expecting maybe a hummmm or a buzzz or some other electronic-kinda sound, but instead there was a lot of banging and klunking going on - pretty bizarre.
The one I was in had a stereo to listen to, or a tiny TV you could watch (both w/ headphones, due to the aforementioned racket).
Results in a coupla days.
