I just called a new (to me) LBS inquiring about Shimano chains. They said they don’t carry Shimano, only KMC. I must admit I’ve never heard of KMC, I’ve only used Shimano and SRAM chains. What’s the word on KMC? Better alternative or steer clear? Thanks!

Actually what you didn’t realize is that KMC has been the exclusive OEM supplier for Shimano multi speed chains since 1986…so you are well accustomed to KMC ya just didn’t know it! Your LBS is doing you a favor most likely as they are 30+% less than the same chain with Shimano stamped on it, but identical specs.
